    Some pics,

Pic 3 is the best one I have but I am sure that there will be better versions of it posted.

Pic 4 is Wends doing her first real obstacle. That was excellent brat.

    Guys

This was truly a wonderful weekend away, and definitely one of the more exciting trails that I have done.

For those who have not been there: The trail consists of 3 "tracks", that is set out in a beautiful farm with mountains, green veld, lush bushes and general rocky terrain. You will find numerous very rocky steep up's, and just as many rocky steep downs. There are also quite a bit of tricky side sloped dongas to negotiate, and if you plan to take the tricky advance route for the Tierkloof track, you will find a VERY rocky portion, where vehicle damage is almost imminent if not guided properly (here we were very lucky to only scrape the bottom of a vehicles side steps)

I want to thank all the guys for making this a trip to remember, and I can’t wait to go back for some more.

Franz, my Landy also has a small noise coming from the steering, and I will have to check it out……Good luck with your noise

OK, sounds like one of the universal joints is shot. SMYlie will be going in tomorrow for the repairs at SAJCO. Anyone dealt with them before?

    Hi Guys,

Just got back to JHB. Haven't noticed any funnies on the vehicle, she was cruising with the trailer on all the way home smiling... (Touch wood... ). The running boards have looked in better condition though!

Can anyone suggest decent rock sliders to put on the Triton and where I can get them in JHB?

Here are some of the pics Charmain took.

    Hi Chris,

When I contacted them yesterday, they indicated that you can go anytime, you just need to phone and book with them.

    Cheers.

Default 3 Provinces 16 December weekend

    Ok, SMYlie is fixed

SAJCO replaced all three universals, the gearbox yoke and the center bearing.

Just to let you know that it is not from the 3 Provinces alone. I think it was just due to be changed.

So Gerhard, I still got that unwanted Christmas gift. Hope your Landie is ok.

And I'm on leave as from today so I am very chuffed.

    3 Provinces 16 December weekend

This was by far the best trail weekend we have done since we started the 4x4 thing. We will definitely return to redo the trails.

The area is fantastically beautiful. A lot of the trails where over mountains and you could see for miles on end in all directions and it is all nice and green.

We where very lucky with the weather as we did not have any rain. Although rain would have made the trail very interesting, we do prefer not to camp in the rain.

The group that where there was great! We met some new people and had lots of laughs around the fire at night.

The 3 Provinces trail was LONG!! but very interesting. The trail took us the whole day because Manny wasn't there. We stopped at the braai area for a quick "lunch" which is a few circles of small rocks on the ground under a lot of shade. (perfect) The views here once again fantastic, lots of obstacles and some where quite challenging for some of the vehicles. Nice thing is that most of the branches have been cut away so very few scratches on the sides.

Saturday we tackled Tierkloof first. Gerhard (90inches) was leading and some places he had to really search for the trail as very few vehicles do the trail. This trail is also very nice. Lots of obstacles on top of each other going up and down the side of a mountain and quite a few side slopes as Gerhard mentioned. This trail we finished in about 2 hours I think it was.

We stopped at the plaashuis for a pit-stop before we tackled the next short trail. At this rate I thought we where going to be back at camp at about 12pm.

Bobbejaankrans, So we start this trail that looks very mild and boring. We get up one small obstacle then we see a board that says "Rocky Section" so someone finally made a decision and we tackled the rocky section. We got back to the camp area just before 4pm I think it was. Damn that was definitely challenging section. The first part was narrow, very narrow. I am amazed that there was so little damage to the vehicles. Only BrandonW got his side steps deformed a little. Then came "Charel's Hill" renamed after Charel the greenie I really did not think that you where going to make it up that hill boet. A recovery would have been very difficult as well. Very nice trail as well but doing it after 3 Provinces the previous day and Tierkloof the same morning in the heat that we had it made the day very long.

Waterfall; We missed the waterfall section Friday so we decided that it was too early to start the fires and we tackled the road back to the waterfall. There is a very tuff decline going towards the waterfall and then there is an obstacle that crosses the stream that is just not doable anymore so we walked about a km to get to the waterfall. Don't waste your time and there is no place to swim.

The camping area is very basic but damn nice. The showers where nice and hot thanks to Gerhard taking control of making fire for the donkie. Toilets are flush toilets and are clean. There is a generator that supplies power to some lights at the showers/toilets until around 10pm at night but we could hardly hear it from where we were camping.

Unfortunately our monkeys where the only kids there and there is nothing for them to do at the camping area but luckily Gerhard came to the rescue again, playing with them. Thanks to everyone else that also entertained them, really appreciated it.

We met some really nice people and hope to see you again soon.

I will post some more pics soon.

    Franz

    Thank you Franz,
Finally something to carry my name... Lol.
I also really didn't think that I would have made that hill, that's why I decided to go last, to give me time to gather my nerves.

But it just goes to show what can be done with good advice and guidens.
Thank you again for yours and Gerhard's advice and help over the weekend, you really took us under your wing over the weekend.

Glad to hear your car is sorted, was at LL today, and glad to report other than a couple of noks to the crossmember, and a scrape or two to the diffs, and my scratched rim from "charel's Hill" no real damage.
Already got the parts to sort my 3 Amigo's, so next time I will be more prepared.

Cheers to all that done the 3 Province trail
    It was a blast!
