Coming to visit you say? Are you going east coast or west coast or both?
I can only comment on the West coast though.

Kreef is open all year round and you can take out 8 per person.

Perlemoen is only open for 5 days. one hour per day only.
It is EXTREMELY regulated and not much poaching going on as the fines are HUGE.
So this year, they have allocated 5 Saturday mornings between the hours of 7 to 8am ONLY.
15 Perlemoen each.

However, in the South West of Western Australia the season for Abalone is open from October to May. You can dive any time of day and also take out 15 per person per day.

Some of the kreef people dive for are HUGE.
The species is very similar to what we use to dive around the Western Cape.
Instead of Jasus Llalandii, Western Australia has Jasus Edwardii.

They taste 95% the same. Slightly sweeter. Size for size, the kreef tail here has more meat in, ut the legs have less in.

I also tried pickling the kreef tail meat. But in hindsight, I wont do that again. You loose the flavour of the kreef eventually.

I found a couple of recipes online on how to make Perlemoen koekies....

Even one from Pieter Pieterse.

Tried one of them.
Came out ok, but too much flour and egg I think.

We do yes.

I have not taken any out, but you can take 10 per day per person....... all year round.

Remember, back in the day when ‘jail’ was created, I volunteered to be the first to visit ‘Bubba’ for 24 hours and report back afterwards.

Well, that day Dirk sent me to ‘jail’.
I met Bubba and we had a chat.

Nothing scares me anymore......... apart from Bubba.

Getting banned seems like a holiday now
