Jan Heyneke (Landy Tech) in Benoni loads a "euro spec" map onto the ECU, apparantly that improves the turbo lag somewhat
|
Hi there,
I have just bought a 2 nd Disco TD5 (the other Disco is manual- no major turbo lag).
The new one is auto and we know how "gevrek" is the auto when pulling away - lots of turbo lag.
Question :
1. Is mapping of the ECU (i think that is what it is called) the only way to beef up some kw what is required for initial pull away and is it recommended?
2. Who would or could be recommended in PTA / Midrand area? British 4x4 , 3 Lions , Landyworx ?
3. Cost perhaps ?
Many thanks

I had the "Euro Map" put on by Land Tech. Did make a difference BUT first do the following;
1) Make sure injectors are mapped correctly in ECU and injector lashing is correct (??)
2) Remove Cat, exhaust center pipe to be replaced by straight through pipe
3) remove EGR
4) AFM - make sure it works correctly
5) Fuel pump is pumping at correct pressure
6) Air filter is clean.
PM me for details if you require more info.
Hi Wollies
I am allways amazed when I hear people saying the auto TD5 has turbo lag, my 2004 Disco TD5 GS Auto has no turbo lag at all & pulls away like a dragster. My engine is standard. Having had a Disco Tdi in the past I know all about turbo lag. Perhaps make sure everything else is in tip top shape as in my opinion you shouldnt be having a problem when pulling away.
Cheers & enjoy your Disco's

complaints about it being dead on pulloff seems fairly common on the auto.
unfortunately if there is no boost, it does struggle a bit.
bigger tyres is also a problem.
having your foot on the brake and then accelerating and then letting go of the brake does help a bit.
probably a good idea to just have her checked on diagnostics.
there seems to be some that tend to think they are in low range and then have a lazy pedal. this can be verified by a diagnostic tool.
Land Rovers never die, they simply become organ donors!
Get it on diags and check all sensors. Clear trans adaptations.
Set boost to max 2.25bar for safety. Make sure the intercooler and pipes are clean and in good shape. Remove EGR. Make sure wastegate solenoid is working. Remove centre exhaust box.
Now put it in Sports mode and teach her what pullaway means.
Read up on stall testing the auto, it will also tell you if you have torque converter or gearbox problems.

Speak to Elton @ Turbo Chip, www.turbochip.co.za. He did my TD5 and I was very happy with it.
Dirk what did you pay?
