    Default Closing

Just a quick one for those in JHB and KZN.
We are closing in JHB this friday and moving down to Durban.
For all our JHB friends and customers we will be doing a once a month mid month trip to assist those that need attention, such has been the response the Ford Transit van that pulled got me going in the 1st place is going back on the road. In other words a mobile service.

Regret at present this service is not going to be available in KZN at present but will consider it shortly, possibly buy snother van to cover this area.

All contact details will remain the same.
We already have 4 vehicles lined up down in Durbs when we arrive such has been the response

Further details will follow on my blog on thursday

Damn, i pretty liked the service and help i got from you which was near to home as well. Oh well such is life i guess. Wish you all the best for your venture down in the KZ of N. You will be keeping your same number i presume? When i am down there could possibly pop in to see your setup and workshop. For the guys in KZN, you have a passionate specialist available to sort out your pride and joy. Once again all the best and keep well.

Where will your workshop be based?

And are you registered with the RMI and do you do warranty work?

The workshop is going to be in Goodridge or is that Goodwoood (not there yet)... the address is Willem and Moore..apparenly as a good friend has located this workshop up for grabs..

My plan is as follows, move down this weekend and place equipmnet into storage, hunt, look around and move in within a week, it may take two but hope not as the response has been very positive in such a short time, believe it or not I have 5 vehicles lined up....yikes

At present not Registered with RMI and will investigate this whole issue with Warranty companies, being qualified myself I feel the need for such 'Membership" is underminding why I did a trade test in the first place...there again anyone can go buy bunch of tools and say they are macs.

I'd like some more feed back on this RMI issue, all reponses please be it in the open or pm's

If any of you guys or gals think the location is not ideal please let me know, also prepared to share a place if its of the right size/setup, worked well in JHB but no panel beating shop share due to dust , noise etc as I do lots of engine rebuilds.

My guess would be Glenwood, which would be off Moore Road. Cant get better situated than that.

Is this a subtle attempt to bypass the advertising laws?

i think Chris is valuable member of the Landy fraternity and enough guys will soon catch on to where he has moved even without a little bit of "advertising"
i feel for the regulars who have lost him up here. he is in a niche market and not many guys are willing to venture into the dark world of the RR lineup.
even owners of Rangies may be tempted to look at other brands out of desperation if they can't keep their babies going sweetly.

That's probably Moore road in Glenwood?

The reason I am asking about the RMI:
My aftermarket warranty requires that my vehicle gets serviced and repaired by a RMI registered shop. And my current indie claims directly from the warranty when things needs to be done. No admin from my side. I just pay the difference and collect my vehicle.

If being registered with the RMI means more work for you, why not
Guess it depends on the cost of it.
It might not really be worth it.

Also, have a card machine at your place. There is an indie in Ballito that does good work, but doesnt have a card machine. I don't carry cash, especially not the kind of cash that it normally cost to repair a broken landy

Once my warranty runs out I will do the servicing and minor repairs myself, but will still use and indie for major stuff. My TD5 being on 280k km an engine rebuild is probably not too far away...

I will be keen to explore the RMI option again, did before but costs was somewhat of a shocker.

Card machines are abit of a issue but investigating the option to sell spares so it looks like it will happen, I guess either way RMI along with spares and a card machine will go along way

honestly, with today's technology and most people (at least those that pay by card) having access to internet/cellphone banking, EFT's are almost as easy as paying by card.
as long as the customer have you preloaded as a beneficiary, payment can be done in seconds.
card machines are expensive and generally cost you around 6% per transaction.
pricing structures are either aimed at cash/transfer payments or aimed at card payers.
if aimed at card payers, guys that pay by cash or EFT do not get the benefit (discount)

I regularly buy from a company that also does not take cards. The first time, it was a simple matter to sit down behind the secretary's desk and create them as a beneficiary right there. This takes two minutes and is then done for subsequent purchases.

Just have some privacy available for the customer at your computer, as one tends to feel a bit edgy with the personnel milling around you behind the counter while you type in your pin number.

Yes, I agree, if you don't have a card machine, at least have a PC available to do EFTs.

That is a bit of bad news to hear you will be moving away from the freindly city of JHB but good luck with the new venture.

In the RRC and P38 area I dont think "Warranty" work is going to be too much of an issue so weigh up the RMI issue and see how it benefits you. Good luck Viper, if you have to emigrate, I rekon DBN is a better bet than OZ

PS: I think Air Suspension at the coast is a better bet as it doesnt rust

    Hi Chris,

I would suggest looking for a workshop in the Westmead area in Pinetown which is more central to most areas and is the engineering/supply hub in the area.

Currently there is an indy in the CBD area that does P38's and anything else, very established with more than 15y support.

I will be popping by for sure, when you're unpacked :-)

Let me know if I can help with anything, selection of engineering works, suppliers, panelbeating shops worth looking at, secondhand spares for Land Rovers and general Landy contacts in the area

    Cheers,
    EbenH.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

As per LL's point card machine vendor aint pretty and have always accepted the EFT route.

I have such a great client base that they pay when they get home, its a trust and have never been let down once.
All my clients are not just customers they also become my friends and they say never make friends with your customers, I say nonsense....working on LRs is a hobby, a job, and a passion otherwise I would not be doing it.

"Customrv" I'll sure be getting in contact with you shortly and take up your offer, many thanks.
