Tobie, yes via Upington. We are staying over at Red Sands on the night of the 22nd.

Jealous about Rooiputs, would have loved to spend some time there on this visit

See you there! We'll be at TR 4-6 Aug as well, then onto Nossob and MM.

very Jealous of all the travels! We have telkom phones that roamed on mtn and reception was extremely bad and we only had a bit of connection in TR and at the museum strangely enough, but only for messages this was December 2018.

As for never getting place at rooiputs, it frustrates me, I want to have the un-fenced wild experience too.

Their campsite is empty or there is one occupied and the rest empty, but when you ask they say it is fully booked. Is there not something that can be done about this? It seems the tour-operators book out the sites whether or not they have clients? Actually a clever idea if you make enough of your clients in the times they are there to cover the rest, but I would love an opportunity to camp there too?

Nothing wrong, you get choices everyday whether to go up the Auob or the Nossob. Go to Mata Mata and you get to go up and down the same rd everyday.

Great sightings in the South and you can make day visits to places like Auchterlonie picnic spot and museum. plus you get a restaurant that serves venison pie and mash and you have a bottle store on site.
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Yup, nothing wrong with TR. I had to book pretty much a year in advance to get bookings at Nossob and Mata

Looking forward to your opinion on the sites. Always interesting as to who likes what sites and for what reason.

Yeah for sure that is true. I was just keen to experience a bit more of the park that's all, but I'm super excited to go regardless. I would be happy to sleep in the car park

    Venison pie you say....

Ya I kinda figured that those 2 would have a bit of a waiting list looking at the availability on the sanparks site.

The park is sadly extremely dry Very large areas around Melkvlei and Kij-Kij which is just bare earth.

Today a strong blistering hot wind is pumping. Some clouds are building but more too far the east.

But still good to just be here, walk in the sand and experience the beautiful red dunes.
