What beats me is their booking reservation program. If you go to booking reservation Nossop camp site is full, but after closing time at the gates there is still plenty of camp sites open.

Seems there is no communication between reservation department and the camp it self??
The reason is that people book a power stand, get there and decide to camp next to the fence with no power points.
On the sytem it shows as fully booked, but with many power stands vacant.

Any update on the drought? I have seen some reports of rain around Rooiputs last week. Anything rain further north?

I have a reservation for January 2020 and need to make a call (was there in May 2019 and was bad)

No, the adventure already stopped when the Upington - Askam road were tarred. Before that it was gravel all the way from Upington, now that was an adventure, first in the back seat of Peugeot 404 station wagons, much later my own Landy.

Great to hear that. We were there in October, very dry. The eland were over hydrating and just dying at the waterholes. Saw lion at about every water hole south of Nossob.

Just returned, the park has had some good rains. My info is from the period 28/12-05/01.

    Twee Rivieren area dry.
Mata Mata dry but we had scattered storms on the 29th and 30th including a ripper in the Dalkeith area.
Upper dune road had good rain on the 29th on the western side. Eastern side is green. Area around Dikbaardskolk is green.
Nossob dry but we had sporadic storms from the 31st to the 2nd including 19mm at Nossob on the 31st. Everywhere north of Bedinkt is green.

The Botswana side is also green. We drove out of Kaa gate along the cut line to Mabua and it looks like the midlands in early summer. Jannie at Cornwall Lodge told me they have had 200mm in the last three weeks.

Sightings were very good, lots of lions. Plenty of leopard sightings around Nossob (4 different sightings in one day reported). We only had one cheetah but watched it take down a springbok. No hyenas, badgers or caracals.

In summary, I've never seen the reserve this green in December, and there were storms every afternoon. We barely saw a star in the evenings.

Those going in in the next few months are in for a treat I reckon.

You have to go via Nossob. The tracks are all one ways. You can leave via Moravet.

Whoo-Hoo!! Booked for the 1st week in March; moving between Nossob, Twee Rivieren and Mata Mata.

Then, into Namibia for another 2 weeks...
