    Bogaards,

The first da bookings open for April 2018 is on 2 May 2017. I doubt you will get place a day later when on-line opens.
Easter Weekend very popular with day visitors and school holidays. Best to try a week later if possible. Remember its rainy season so be prepared for roads under water. Weather will pleasant most of the time, but pack in some warm clothing.

Just returned from 1 week in Kgalagadi.

Temperatures from 14 min to 42 degrees but very much bearable. Beautiful sightings even though it was full moon...

We took the Askam to Vanzylsrus dirt road. It is being grated, i would say 1/3 of the surface is excellent the rest is quite bad but definitely drivable at 60-70km/hr. With Bushlapa in tow.

I'm still of the opinion that it is faster via Upington on tar even though longer.

    Hello there ...

Almost time for me to take the plane to Kgalagadi ...
    So last questions are coming:

    - Petrol station (diesel) in TR ... Finished or not ?
    - What about the roads's condition ?? TR - Nossob and Mata-Mata ?
    - Where to buy food before getting in KH ... Is it better to go to Askham ?
    - My last night will be at TR, I will have to drive directly to JNB ... Do you know at what time the door of TR are open in December ?
    - BBQ ... Have to be done at around 5.00PM because of the bug flying around ??
    - In Mata-Mata still possible to cross the border with namibia to buy meat ?

    Thx

    Default Kgalagadi

    Hi Guys

Edit: Found it via Facebook and this forum!! Thanks.

My HD Action Camera (FK GoPro) fell victim to the many water crossings and corrugations of the Mata Mata to Twee Rivieren Road a few days ago. The mounting broke off the roof rack. Please let me know if you find this? It contains a memory card with the last videos of our trip, including evidence of lots of water on the road from Mata Mata to Twee Rivieren.

It is white in color and will be in a clear waterproof plastic housing with (half) a black clip mount attached to it! I think it fell off the roof somewhere between Gemsbokplein, Auchterlonie and Two Rivers.

It was reported to me by the reception staff at T-R that someone did collect the camera from the road, but after discussions with the staff, this gentleman decided not to hand it in, insisting on contacting the owner (me) directly. Seems the T-R staff did not retrieve my details and failed to pass it onto this person.

If you read this, please find my details at T-R reception under the topic of "Action Camera" and the surname "Vermaak".

Please note that Twee Rivieren has Diesel BUT they are battling with the petrol pumps.
The Underground Petrol tanks are full but the pumps seem to have AIR IN ? OR SOMETHING.
So for 3 days now NO PETROL. Maybe JUST IN CASE topup at Askam
They are trying to get the installation guys back but they are struggling a bit.
Diesel pumps had been working yesterday.
Phone the office if you are not sure I think it is 054 561 2000.

Thanks for this, just called them now. The problem is that in the heat the tanks build up pressure which must be released via the pressure relief valves. The pumps cannot be operated under those conditions.

The pumps are open between 7 and 10 at TR, Nossob and Mata Mata

The (new-ish) Kathu Inn on the N14 going past Kathu, for very decent tourist class hotel accommodation next to the highway. Kathu has a new mall, modern amenities, fuel stations and really is so much nicer than anything close to Kuruman. Double Room should be around R750 per night with kitchenette, aircon, TV, etc.

Katexas steakhouse and pub is a nice spot for sundowners and dinner.

Red Sands is really nice, in very quiet place.
The breakfast was nice, we didn't test the dinner because it was too late.

    Hi guys
Any idea of the size of the campsites in the Kgalagadi? We are booking at Twee Rivieren in March, and hoping to swap with Nossob for a few later

Twee Rivieren is cramped - Nossob sites are large.

Nossob - the best camp site.

But game is excellent at Twee Rivieren as you have both river beds.
