    So heres comes the puffadder:

We did stay at Rooiputs for 4 or 5 days. At 6 we left camp for game drive, at 8 we arrived at Melkvlei, it was still cold in the morning (April, around 12, 13). I stumbled into the toilet, luckily left the door open, as there were no other people around due to the road closure (heaven, I tell you, weve been all alone for days only meeting two other people staying at Rooiputs). I sat at the toilet and looked to the door at than saw the puffadder laying at the left side near the wall.

I was thinking what to do, the windows behind me closed, no chance to crawl out. Theoretically the snake would be too cold for movement. Stood up slowly and moved out of the toilet at the right side, moving only millimeter by millimeter. My husband stood on the other side, wondering about my behaviour. I whispered theres a puffadder in my toilet. I had adrenadin pure in my veins, my hair did stand upright. Slowly I managed to get out. From the mens side I took later the pictures.

We fixed a notice at the door and reported at camp reception, they were only laughing. Ok it was my first and close encounter with a venomous snake....

The problem at theese toilets is that the outer sliding door should slide back from themselves, what they mostly don't do. People also leave than the inner doors open, so a snake can easily go in. Or a lioness.

Kgalagadi is home of these creatures, never forget that. We had a wonderful horned adder at Kalahari trails, Prof. Raza showed us her on a morning walk. I would never have seen her.

Kalahari Trails is about 60 km before you reach TR and an ideal stop over: http://www.kalaharitrails.co.za/index.php?p=1&lang=eng
Prof Raza is a great person, a walk with her will open your eyes.

Ive tried to capture some of the tracks we saw:
    https://picasaweb.google.com/1171039...ilsMorningWalk

Another great opportunity to learn something is a guided walk at Nossob with Guide Melissa. You must book the walk preferably early as she needs to organise a backup.

Enjoy Kgalagadi! I think I cancel KNP .....

Ground tents - well there is the camp fire story of this pride of lions which arrived in a Botswana camp in the early hours with one of them rubbing itself right along the side of the tent as the couple slept.

The pride sat down right next to it. The cubs played with the tent ropes and chewed the pegs for hours. In the morning the occupants finally were able to get out and discover that the front awning had ben demolished. After that trip they switched to rooftop tents.

For the record the Kgalagadi lions are more muscular than those found elsewhere due to their walking up and down the desert dunes.......

    Southerndreams,
Those pictures of the lion cubs that you posted: Surely those cubs must be ill. Look at how skiny they are and their condition in general. I think somebody mentioned that one of the cubs died later on.
One wonders why this should be and what was wrong.

Yes it was looking very sick, I wrote that one cub died later. At Kgalagadi it is clearly the problem of misconstruction and lack of maintainance of the outer doors, also ignorance of the people and of park management.

We stayed at Bitterpan that night. We reported the lioness at Nossob. I wanted to talk to the camp manager because I knew, shes been in ther for more than 3 days, they said hes just going out and has no radio in the car (HaHa). Hours later two other people arrived at Bitterpan. The guy was in a very bad mood, he has been to the toilet, opened the door and saw into the lionesses face! We were lucky as people we met at KijKij told us about before we did go there.

Melkvlei is in the Nossob Valley. On the map you will se Melkvlei between KijKij and Gunong> http://www.sanparks.org/images/parks..._parkmap08.jpg KijKij is an aerea, where you will see lots of lions and cheetahs

All Picknick Stations have the same sliding doors.

Sorry for the wrong species, I'm German .... POEFADDER of course In German its a Puffotter. I mix the languages up sometimes.
