Sarel / Elize by Rooiputs het die leeus gereeld deur die kamp gestap. Die een dag het hulle besluit om naels skerp te maak teen n boom LANGS die tent !! ..... net jammer my vrou sal nie in so kamp tuis gaan nie, net te bang.

    sal so maak.

Need some advice please. Will be in the Kgalagadi from the 16th - 26th March. Twee Revieren, Nossob and Mata-Mata. Now traveling from Nossob to Mata-Mata I see there is a 4x4 route. Please attached.

Now am I allowed to travel this route? Must I book it or can I just travel on it?

Another question. Is there any cell phone signal in the park? If so where?

Lastly will anyone be there during that time?

Hi, the normal road from Nossob via Dune Road to Mata Mata (Dikbaardskolk - Kamqua) is a normal road, no 4x4 and no booking needed. Terribly corrugated, drive slowest speed and plan a lot of time. But you will see that on the way up to Nossob.

The road via Bitterpan (thats what you possibley mean) is only for Bitterpan residents, and yes, its 4x4. You can't book only the road.
But BP is great, you can go there the next time!

Youll see it on the official map:

Theres only cellphone reception at Twee Rivieren and at one spot at Rooiputs Campsite Nr. 2 in direction to TR.

And no, I won't be there at this time, unfortunatly ....

    ENJOY every minute!

Are you camping, or staying in the houses ?

We were VERY impressed with the thatched roof houses at Mata-Mata !!

PS - if you are going in the school holiday make SURE you have enough fuel ! When the crowd left Nossob just before the schools opened they emptied the fuel tanks and a couple of people got stuck.

Got stucked one day twice between Nossob and Rooiputs.
First ignition fuse got blown (that big block fuse you can't buy at Midas or so, some cables rubbed through due to corrugation) and after 2 hours some chaps went through and helped us.

Hours later near Melkvlei our car stopped again. This time the contacts of the battery got loose. Now we saw lions under a tree no 100 m away! Nobody came through but we could fix it ourselves before it got dark.

Now I am lucky to owe a car without electrical window lift.

the one gent was going into Botswana and doing a wide turn, needing a full tank and jerry cans - he nearly lost out on already paid reservations as they could not help him with diesel. Once it was confirmed the fuel truck was at Twee rivieren and on the way up somebody helped him out.

the other gent was doing a three day trip via Botswana back into SA, ending in a booked flight out of SA ..... his plans nearly went badly pear shaped.

it is nothing new for fuel stations to run dry over holidays - but in Kgalagadi the next fuel pump is FAR !!

on that point, same with water and cool drink.

When we booked in at Nossob we had enough cooldrink with us for the day, but had to buy for the days we would spend at Gharagab - ONLY Diet Coke in the fridge !! LAter that day they got more stock from Tweerivieren, I STOCKED UP. The next afternoon, NO cooldrinks, only 500ml bottles of water left !!

but then, there are already a number of posts in this thread "advising" people to stock up.

Thanks for the advices Chris. I was wondering if I should take extra fuel for just incase. Staying in chalet @ Twee Revieren and the rest camping.
