    Via Safari Centre, I completed the SAQA level one accreditation this weekend. Our trainer Thys de Jager (Team Offroad) is an experienced hands on guy. Great experience and worth every penny! The advanced level course has a big recovery content and I will definitely look into doing it soon!

    Try Bruce Jenkinson at headout tours. http://www.headout.co.za

    as far as I know he can give you a piece of paper if it's important to you.

    he's the only local trainer I know that can get a defender up a decent sized sand dune....

    We can all do with advice and guidance, we just don't all admit it.

    In my case, I NEED it.

    Thanks ChrisF, appreciate the info.

    Default Bush Mechanic Course

    After recent trip need to do a short bush mechanics course. Met fellow travelers in Malawi from UK who did a basic 2 day course on their vehicle. Good idea for SA.

    Allot of basic things can break and can be bush fixed to get the vehicle going.

    We used black bags and cable ties to seal universal joints on the drive shaft. Anyone know of who does this.

    Default My "cold call" experience

    This is not a comparison. There is no particular order / ranking. It just puts all of the information in one post. The following leads were obtained from the above posts and Google for Western Cape 4x4 training then their respective websites or emails. Emails reflect my experience on the type of response that one may expect to receive from a "cold call" back in September.

    Key
    Response Time: all emails sent within 10 minutes of each other; this is the time taken until a response was received
    Cost (2015 prices)
    N = non-accredited course
    A = accredited course
    The +R141 is for payment to the Atlantis municipality for entrance fees. This is an optional, no-fee extra for training with TeamOffRoad, but R141 entrance + R250 training for 4x4Cedarburg.
    Seats: class capacity (number students / learners)

    If any of the above companies would like for me to update the above info, please PM me.

    Default Re: 4x4 Training - Western Cape: Cederberg 4x4

    I'm a newcomer to offroad driving, so I did the basic 4x4 driver training course with Cederberg 4x4 this last weekend. It took place on Saturday and is lead by Coenie who is a very affable and knowledgeable guy. Had about four hours of theory in the morning, then you get to apply some of your new knowledge over different obstacles on a wine farm close by. I'd say it's a very good introduction to driving offroad and to get an idea of your vehicle's abilities and limitations - among other things I learned that those handsome running boards on a Prado can get bashed and scraped quite easily!

    Part of the course is also an additional day at Atlantis on the dunes.

    If anyone is looking for a place to acquire some offroad knowledge and skills I can definitely recommend them: http://www.cederberg4x4.co.za/

    Now just to create an opportunity to go and explore...

    Can anyone recommend a good company to provide a 3 or 4 day package of off road training (ideally in land rovers or land cruisers) for 4 people in late January? They need to have a good off road course, decent vehicles, accommodation etc. Many thanks

    TeamOffRoad offers certified training plus adventures for their course members and Thys also organises trips for a particular brand of 4x4 as I presume many outfits do. However, you seem to suggest that they need to rent 4x4s as well. Im under correction, but for that I would think that youd need to go to a rental agency and they might require some prior training certificates. Anyway, speak with Thys; see post 29 above for his contact details. He is very helpful.

    Need some help please. I need a beginners training course in 4x4 - and lets see where that takes me.
    My need is not for serious off-road at this point, more soft targets if that means anything.
    I am in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town
    I own a 1999 PAJERO - automatic - so my thinking is obviously for someone who is familiar with my Truck specifically

    Any recommendations please?

    Some feedback - I spend a great day with Bruce Jenkinson of HeadOut yesterday. Training is comprehensive and thorough. Bruce is very experienced and patient. I will certainly recommend Bruce to anyone. The one-on-one course for a newcomer is essential.
    I am confident that I understand why to do what and when - which means my vehicle is safer in my hands now. Which is kind of half the reason doing a course - safe driver, safe vehicle.
