Default Atlantis dunes this Friday and Helderberg Plaas on Saturday morning

I am new to the 4x4 community and have done quite a bit of 4x4ing but have not done the dunes yet
I finish work at 3pm on friday in Montague gardens and would like to go do the Atlantis dunes on Friday if anyone is keen to join?
How does the friday club work as I would like to go with people who know the correct way at the dunes and the do's and donts
I am also keen to do the Helberg farm on saturday before the rugby.
Has anyone done this trail recently and would you recommend it for a fairly new 4x4 driver?

I would appreciate any help or comments

    Cheers
    Francois

Francois, the Helderberg route is great for beginners as it's fairly easy with challenging bits here and there. The "boomslang" obstacle can become damn slippery after rain. There's nowhere you could get helplessly stuck on the trail, so I would say it's safe to do alone if it comes down to it.

For Atlantis, you should post on the Atlantis thread. Those guys will be more than happy to have you

    Hi Francious

You can find our club in the dunes most fridays bar a competition somewhere else or another event.

The guys normally meet at 13h00 at Gate 1 and then we head in for more details check the website www.fridayavieclub.co.za

I wont make this friday but I am sure a bunch of the guys will be there even if its raining there will be a few die hards.

Give me a shout if you need further info.

Every first friday of the month we cater for the new hands and you can listen for hours to David H chatting on the radio giving sound advice .

    Cheers

I always run at about 0.8-0.6 on any trail. I'm sure the guys at Atlantis would recommend more or less the same. I've noticed that it doesn't make a huge difference unless you go below 1 bar, but that could be due to my hard sidewalls.

Ja, 0.8 is the most common starting point for AD. Your rim width also affects flotation

IMHO, rather flat than stuck As said, I deflate to ~0.7 on all trails. You can do Helderberg with fully inflated tires, but deflating always gives you more traction and less chance of your tires being damaged due to them giving way to rocks and such.

So stay away from any puddle on Zewenwaght and surrounds!!

PS. There will be a helping crowd to rescue you if needed. Even if it costs you a season of suck up afterwards!!

PS2: Someone already has debs on the centre puddle on Zewenwaght!!

I landed on top of a Cruiser with my last Jeep, so won't argue the point

Sadly yes - big damage, but I am not fussy what 4x4 I hit

This can be a statement that can be proven incorrect?

Maybe a (lack of) Landie and the right foot, is also a factor?

PS: Ian, Just stirring. Will join you all at AD 1 on these days!!
