Default Snow Chains on Sani Pass

    Hi All

I heard a rumor that the SA Border Post on Sani Pass are only letting 4x4 through that have snow chains fitted on ALL tires! Apparently it's because the conditions/ice is so bad!
    Can anyone confirm or deny??
We are heading up there just after the long weekend. Dont wanna ruin out trip if it's true.... I only have 1 set of chains....

Update: Just spoke to Sani mountain lodge who confirmed that you do not need snow chains at all (as a border requirement).

Was up Sani on 13/6/2016 with the top section frozen solid, basically from the beginning of the hairpin bends all the way to Mokhotlong. Border control did look at my vehicle, and decided that I would have no issues without chains. I ordered chains, but the supplier could not deliver on time, so canned them. Had no problems, just be very careful, and take it easy. I used BFG MT tyres, no hint of loosing grip.
