Default Accom in Dar es Salaam ??

    HI
We are going to Zanzibar in December

We land in Dar at 18.30 and don't want to fight our way to the harbour, the ferry, and across the island in the dark, so, can anybody recommend a hotel or somewhere - near the airport to spend the night - affordable and clean.

    Any other advice greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Check out this website- it has a lot of good info. They also have 'deals' offered through their email list.

HI PGJ - yes - we were booked on the BA flight which lands at about 2 in the morning, but the flight has been cancelled, we were bumped onto SAA.
1-Time was almost twice the price when we enquired.

Thanks luangwablondes - will look !!

    tks

Request an accommodation voucher from the airline , you are more than entitled to it .

    Make some noise !

    Good luck .

    Hi Kirsty

Please post a trip report when you are back - we are also very keen to go, probably in June next year.

Hi Kristy, accommodation is very expensive in Dar. Also the airport is quite distance from the harbor. Not a lot of accommodation close to airport. If you are really struggling please PM me. I have colleague staying in Dar. Fakru may be able to give you some ideas. you are also welcome to call me on 0832291427.

Hi Kirsty, The Coloseum is my preferred place to stay. quite, very comfy rooms, good breakfast. They also have a nice italian restaurent on premises, and a gym. Beast thing is its quiet! Its situated amongst the embassies etc. if on a budget, try the Millenium (next to a WW2 memorial, nice pool. Or the Giraffe - food is not great there though. getting in at 2am is a bit tough though. by the time you get to any hotel in Dar it'll be almost 4am... The protea is also not bad but it gets rowdy there.

Hi - thanks for all this advice and help, and yes I will make a report when we are back.

BA bumped us onto SAA, so the flight times are very much easier, we land at 6.30 pm. We have booked into the Southern Sun, they were very accommodating, ($160 for four of us incl b/fast) effectively teenagers and 20-year olds are staying free of charge, and they are fetching us from the airport.

    looking forward hugely

    cheers
