    Default Southern Cape Tour

    Heritage Tour

The Southern Cape Heritage tour is once again getting nearer. Our tour dates are:
    19 to 25 September 2011
    2nd to 8th October 2011
    16 to 22 December 2011

This tour follows the Oxwagon routes and a lot more. We see Bushmen Paintings, do trails, wine tasting and see Gold Mines, we see the Knysna forests and meet some well known "legends" in the 4x4 field. It is a very special tour and is suitable for soft roaders** etc. The total distance travelled is approximatly 460Km with only about 20Km of this on tar roads.
Highly recomended and has been featured in magazines such as "The South"
** please speak to us about soft roaders

    Nice

I have done this tour before, it was really great.

Maybe you can ad some pricing? Would you mind if I place some pics of the other trip on here?

    Some Pics

Barry just making it easier for the rest of us Or just making holes

Rock art, there is also a cave where they found a bushman grave.

Camping in the woods. It was a lovely place to camp, with warm water provided by a type of donkey. The trees falling over in the night helps you to sleep with one eye open as well

Cooling off and showing my vet pens off We did the tour in december and it was hot!

Some of the guys who went, obviously I had a lot of banter from the Prado driver, but he had to be recovered by the colt, true story

Some funny signs guides you on the way.

Some good memories, thanks Jean. I take note of the supervisor in pic number 2, Barry packs rocks whiled being observed, maybee you should have been a prison guard ..... The pic 8 with everyone walking in the river is looking at fresh Leopard spoor.
This is a magic tour. It is self drive but we also have room for about 4 to 5 people in guide cars. The tour is conducted by registered 4x4 guides and is really a special tour with so much to take in and observe. People travel overseas and into Africa to see half of what our own country offers.

A waterfall on the road we drove through MTO. You need special permissions etc, think we were the one of the few public groups to be allowed.

I don't know about the rest of the guys but I got about a kilo of gold out of that mine

Its hard work being a tour guide, the places you have to see, the people you have to meet

Equipment wise, just basic camping stuff, you need to be self sufficient food and water wise for a couple of days, there is however one fuel, shop stop. Every evening there will be toilets and hot water, not electricity though.

    Camera is essential.

Costs should be on the website, or pm dave. Not to much actually if you think about it, you do 4 4x4 trails, permits for old oxwagen routes, camping, visit to the mine, clearance for MTO forestry etc.

Vehicle wise its not really hardcore stuff, most of the time 2-3 and one or two 4s maybe. I think there will probably be alternative routes for softies? Dave maybe you can elaborate on this?

    Hi Maverick,
We basically start in Albertinia and head eastwards for 460Km's on dirt roads (+-25 tar) and 4x4 routes. A lot of places require special permits and specific insurance (expensive!) We end up at Burchell's Oxwagon Route.
Jean, you really have some nice photo's did you forward to Karina?

    Hi Dave,

We're keen - I just have to confirm with my wife, she is out of cellphone contact on the Wild Coast right now. It will be me and my wife and son 16, and daughter, 12 in our V8 110. October 2 to 8. Once I've firmed up, I'll make contact for deposit payment etc. At what point is there a refuel stop? I prefer not to carry jerry cans.

    Hi Jean,
Sorry for missing your question. The October tour still has a few places, the December tour is still completely open. As said before, this is a magic tour and well worth doing.
