Wakkerstroom! Beautiful little town. (But it's not in KZN)

Else maybe Chelmsford dam nature reserve.

Chelmsford dam, and a beautiful quaint town called Utrecht...do some fishing, small game drive for the kids.. approx 70 km before NN. ps both roads to NN are under construction R23 add approx 60 min more road via Vrede/Memel lots off potholes. hope this helps.

It depends if you intend to spend a few days or if you are just looking for a place to camp overnight. I agree with the previous posts, Chummies or Utrecht. If you choose Chelmsford or Ntshingwayo as it is now known, try and get in at Sanford, it is a little further out of town, on the southern bank, but is much quieter. Then again, depends ... different strokes ...
There are some decent sites in Dundee vicinity as well, but that is 60 Km's away. Utrecht is quiet as well, just not over weekends.

We are also looking for a camp spot in New Castle/Volksrust but it has to be pet friendly as I do not travel without my dog. We are spending 2 nights at Dundee for the battle fields in that area and then want move to New Castle/Volksrust for another 2 nights to do that area.

    Hi Randy,

About three years back my wife and I were invited to a camping, birding, photographing, 4X4ing weekend at Bonani farm just outside Newcastle. It is a farm that belonged to an ageing gentleman who devided it into two for his two sons. The one carried on commercial farming on his half and the other started using his half for hunting. Just prior to our stay this second son had decided to stop all hunting and convert his half to 4x4ing, camping, birding etc. The campsite was really nice (just have to check for thorns prior to setting up tents). I don't know what they are up to now but try googling Bonani - Newcastle. We'd definately be happy to stay there again if they still offer the same facilities. Good luck, Don
