    Default Disco TD5

Hi, I have posted the following this morning, but went offline during the process. I used to own a V8i Disco 1 but traded it in on a Colt V6. I am thinking of purchasing a Disco 2 TD5 with CDL, but have a few concerns regarding diesel vehicles as I am only familiar with petrol models and have read many accounts of blown heads, turbo's, electronics, etc. (only have the greatest admiration for the V8 - no problems, great vehicle)
What advice can you give me on the TD5 please - XS or GS - what do I have to lookout for - what is the major drawback/problems of the TD5? The vehicle will be used ± 80% on road with overland trips to Bots, Zambia, etc.
    Regards
    Wielie

Not sure if you have seen this thread:

    and this one:

I got some great advice there.

I have recently bought myself a td5 auto. So far I am very happy. The XS is nice because it has dual airbags.

I am not over the moon with the rear air suspension, would prefer good old coils, but it is ok for what I am doing now.

Sunroofs are not my cup of tea - I think all XS models have manual sunroofs. There is no problem, I just don't like them.

Cruise control is great on the XS - can be retrofitted to the GS - Think amadisco did it on his.

On diesel vs petrol, there are many more qualified than me to help you there. Get the vehicle tested by an independant land rover workshop before buying (full diagnostic). I took that advice from HenryT and saved close on R20k!!!

I have now had my TD5 Auto GS for 2,5 years and are way over the moon with it.
I also prefer the coil suspension, and have no sunroofs to worry about.

I have retro fitted Criuse control, and a CDL.

Perfect for normal day to day driving ( my wife ) , and for me as a weekend toy !
