    Default Suzuki Jimny Rebuild ?

    Hi Members

Well just like you I have really taken a liking to the Suzuki Jimny , not for its "sheer" size but more for its capabilities. Unfortunately cannot get the bank aka wife to commit in buying a new one as with a lot of women - you get what you pay for of which she kindly pointed out with the Jimny - is not exactly much , but oh women will not understand - but honey it has low range !

Anyways stuck on this predicament i have come across a 2010 model low mileage Suzuki Jimny albeit an accident roll-over. The roof has well caved in somewhat on one side and then other bits of bodywork have been damaged as well. But the engine/drivetrain/chassis etc has no damage that i can see with the naked eye. The drivetrain/engine etc look like brand new - perhaps at most maybe 2000km on the clock ?

Now i can get this Jimny at a really really eye watering good price , but i seek advice before venturing on a rebuild if at all possible on this vehicle. After reading about the 9K attached price to just the bonnet , i found myself asking just how much will the rest of the bodywork be ? There is consideration deep in the depths of my mind to buy the vehicle complete and use entire drivetrain and engine in another vehicle - possible ?

So i would kindly appreciate any thoughts on this here matter.

    Thanks kindly.

I saw a similar wrecked Jimny, advertised for 42k but alas. I don't even have time to wash the one I own now let alone rebuild one.

If you are going to transplant the juicy bits then by all means go for it. But if you thinking about patching it up I would be a bit hesitant. Working in the insurance industry I can safely say that there is a very good reason why an insurance company didn't repair the vehicle in question.

Some insureres are really dumb, ours included, and write off vehicles incorrectly but you should be very careful when buying a vehicle that was written off...But like I say...transplanting is an awesome idea...

Wish you luck with that if it gets that far. Let us know how it works out!

    Hi Folks

Thanks for the advice in regards to my enquiry.

I have looked at the vehicle carefully and have decided against a rebuild.

It seems the replacement parts cost will put a serious dent in my plans.

I am however looking at salvaging the engine and drivetrain etc.

I have a Citroen Berlingo panel van that might be ideal candidate for the conversion..

Will let you know how it goes.

    Thanks..

I would not mind getting my Hand on a Crashed Jimny and do a transplant to Nissan 1400 or even a OLD SJ

How much did you end up paying for the Jimny wreck?

Hi Mate _ Did not purchase it as yet , I am busy with price negotiations with my supplier , If all goes well i should have the vehicle by next week.

Based on certain aspects , I might now reconsider a rebuild if his price is right. All drivetrain and engine looks good , its a late 2010 model.Like you all i really am drawn to this vehicle , my one concern with owning a 4x4 was the fuel consumption ie Prado V6/Hilux D4D/Pajero 3.5 V6 etc but now with the Jimny all thats at the back of my head. Its just that space because wherever i go touring it will be myself, wife and 2 small kids.Eish now i needs that Thule roofbox lol.

Thanks to everyone for the help and input _ much appreciated..
