Do you have a manual for the bike? Should have the setup procedure for idle and airscrew in there, and I assume it's been jetted for the altitude on the reef?

Does anyone know of a good private guy to service the carb on my Yamaha 230 TTR? I had the bike at Linex Yamaha for service, charged me R1400 for full carb service including new needle and seat. Rode bike and it kept on stalling. Took it back, they supposedly re-serviced, rode again and kept on stalling again. I cleaned out the fuel tank, drained pipes but still stalls and idles erratically.

Peter, this has been done. My son has identical bike as well, so checked settings etc.
It seems as if something is 'jamming' in the carb, blocking fuel flow. I just need someone who is expert at tuning carbs.

Bruce, setting the idle and air screws and sorting out the jetting is what a so called expert would do to tune the carb... You've already paid money to someone to do that, so someone else will either charge you money for nothing, or to correct the first guys mistake. In either event, take it back to Linex..
Why not just take the carb off and see what's up?
At the least, let it stand for a bit and drain the float bowl, catch the fuel that comes out and let it evaporate. There shouldn't be any dust or dirt in the container.
If needle and seat where replaced, I'd suspect that the float was not set properly. The manual should tell you how to do this.
Are you sure it's the carb? When last was the plug replaced? Air filter cleaned and oiled?
You might as well learn the maintenance items if you don't know them, as bikes are dead easy to sort out most of the time, and there's nothing worse than breaking down in the bush because you didn't know which bolt to turn.
Hey
Try World of Accessories, guy called Ruben, its next to linex yamaha. He always sorts out our bikes exceptionally well.
