Default Bush camp near Talek River

    Hi all,

I'm looking for some nice place to bush camp near Talek gate (or anywhere else in East Mara)
I think it must be outside the park, right ?
    Any well known places ?

    Regards,
    Itamar

    Hi Itamar

In Masai Mara there are some campsites outside and inside the park. Inside the park if I remember exist campsites in Keekorok Lodge and Mara Serena Lodge, but I don´t know if they are still open for tourists. There are good campsites in Talek Gate, right by the gate, outside the park and run by the masais, the camp have toillets and bathroom. Along the Talek river there are many bush campsites with no facilities, this camps are good for experienced people only, since the area is full of lions and the camps are not fenced. In Musiara Gate years ago they have a bush camp some 300 meters from the gate, in the middle of the plains, no facilities and lions every night visited me there. A lot of fun you can believe. This camp is nice because it is near Paradise Plain, a area full of game and lions too hehehe. If you want to be visited by lions in your campsite, Sand River Gate is the right place for you, I spent many nights there in three diferent oportunities and I was never bored by the lack of Simbas around hehehe. Sand River is just in the border with Tanzania (Serengeti), you drive 200 meters and you are in the Serengeti. You will love the place if you are a lion lover, take care!

    Hi Itamar,

I wouldn't bush camp anywhere on the outskirts of the Mara - there have been some fatal attacks on tourists lately. Rather camp at the scout camps, or get permission to camp at a village. There is some bad s..t going down there at the moment.

    Hi Tony,

    this is bad news :-(
I'm sorry to know about this kind of thing happening in Africa.
    Thank you for the advice.

    Kindest regards,
    Itamar
