    Hi Marius,

Sump compression shouldn't do anything to the turbo as far as I know. but it can and will cause a diesel engine runaway (you can Google this). You need to make sure that the breathing system from the tappet cover to the oil seperator back to the intake pipe is open and not blocked. I've also been told that the vacuum pump on the back of the alternator can go faulty and presurise the sump.

What problems exactly are you experiencing?

Yes it can, I have seeing with extreme sump compression the return line from the turbo cannot return the oil that has being pressed into the turbo for lubrication back into the sump, causing the oil in the turbo to overheat and then the bearings/bushes to fail. Remember the turbo is very sensitive to heat and lubrication, any blockage that will block the oil returning might cause this,
I have seeing guys fitting a new turbo but using to much silicone on the return gasket causing the return hole just below the turbo to be a bit smaller and causing the same result.
Why does the vehicle has sump compression? Rings worn?
    Do this little test:
    1. Start the vehicle with the oil cap off, feel the amount of air coming out there, also rev the engine so about 1500rpm and get a feeling of how much air is being pressed out. Normally a turbo diesel does breath a bit on idling but should be less if you rev it up
    2. Then remove the V-Belt or just release the tensioner so the alternator does not turn. If the breathing is less, the alternator vacuum pump is to be replaced.
    3. If its the same check the breather system on the vehicle, there is a small black container in the brather system that could be faulty, also ensure all the breather pipes are clean. There is however a steel mesh in one of these pipes, think the one going back to the tappet cover that should be cleaned every40000km
    Hope this helps

Sory for taking so long to reply, thank you for the help, looks like the turbo has had its last days. the owner wants to remove the turbo and use it for farm work, how can the turbo be bypassed because the oil is going into the engine via the turbo and it just keeps reving up even if the car is swiched of and there is abselutely no power gain from the turbo strugles to reach 100km/h.

    Hi Marius,

You will have to block of the oil supply to the turbo. To remove the turbo, you will have to have a custom pipe made up by a exhaust shop to fit between the manifold and exhaust where the turbo used to be. Intake air can be directed striaght from the filter to the intake manifold.
