anyone got any advice on removing scratches on rear windscreen caused by wiper blade running dry ?

Hi Mike,
Try fine rubbing compound, maybe followed by burnishing compound.
I had water marks on all my windows, probably from the previous owner washing with borehole water & not drying properly.
It worked well, but with a good deal of elbow grease.
