    Default Scuba Diving Forum???

Does anybody know of a local(south Africa) diving forum? Been looking but can only find some small ones that is part of some dive school.

Then one question for those that know. There seems to be some different courses available, PADI and CMAS. Which is better or best or is both more or less the same? Me and my beter half want to start but does not know which one to do.

    Thanks in advance.

Search PADI and CMAS and NAUI on this forum... loads of info

As regards forums, the best is scubaboard.com which has very good local content.

    Hi Jojo
What they will teach you is much of a muchness, The principles of diving are the same no matter who teaches them. But be sure that whoever you decide to learn from is internationally recognized. Nothing worse than getting to the Maldives having done over 300 dives and then getting told your qualification is not recognised.

PADI & NAUI tend to be more recreational based while CMAS, IANTD etc are more technical based.

Both PADI & NAUI are internationally recognised certification agencies and you wont go wrong with either, there is some "competition and brand bashing" between them, kinda like the landrover vs landcruiser debate ut it's all good.

More than anything else, find an instructor that you TRUST.

    Hi Jojo
Naui or PAdi will give you exactly the same knowledge , It also comes down to your instructor.

    Default Scuba

Naui or Padi, much the same. I done my advance through Naui and then done my Solo diving course with Dave Kitchen from Diving International, also intrenational accredited. The instructor makes or breaks the experience for you. Dave is an absolute gentleman and his dive knowledge and training is brilliant. You can contact him on 0827758133. Welcome to the wonderfull world of diving.

Find someone that does a proper job in training you and does not just want to get you out of your shop ASAP. Thoroughness will add to safety as well.

I personally did my open water throuh NAUI and continued up to DM with CMAS. The CMAS instructors tend to be technical divers as well, so you typically get more than just stated in the textbooks. As others have said, the instructor can make or break the experience!

Yes, posting to this old thread borders on reincarnation, but I thought I'd share a final closing thought:

Behold! A local scuba diving forum! Unaffiliated and awesome!
