I was at Cape Union Mart today, and they have Garmap Onboard (doesn't require an internet connection to navigate) for Android for R600.00. It comes complete with maps on a micro SD card. I have no idea if you can use it with T4A.

I'm upgrading my phone soon, so before I decide on going the Android route, would like to know if it's possible (yet) to have Garmap and T4A maps usable on Android? I know of the Garmap for mobile route, but not sure if that can do T4A.
Otherwise I'll rather wait for Win phone7 to reach our shores (since I'm either way a WinMo fan)

I bought Garmap Mobile for Android with the onboard maps. Work nice for a phone but the maps are not compatable with the normal Garmin maps and will thus not be compatable with T4A. Mapsource can also not be used to create routes for this product.
As far as I know the version you are looking for will be MobileXT from Garmin but they discontinued it because people hacked it to much. The new Windows Mobile version is also Garmap Mobile with the same restrictions as the one for Android.
You can log on the the Garmap Mobile Forum and find out if there is a way to work arounf it, but I don't know of a way
I use Ndrive with my android and I have yet to find a flaw with it, it even speaks afrikaans to me. With the HTC and built in GPS this is just so much better than having an additional GPS device, this little baby took me (2008) into mountain areas and on dirt roads that I thought would not be on the map. So I use this, When you buy the SA version it comes with Maps for Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Malawi, Zambia and Angola. It also comes with a traffic camera package, so if you have an android device look at NDrive.
Hi Eurard,
Thanks for that information - looks interesting. But Playstore has some negative reviews.
1. Is there any way to use T4A maps on your Ndrive for Android?
2. Does it offer a tracklog that can be exported to for instance .gdb?
3. Are you still happy with it?
Thanks
Ndrive is a web file storage app according to Playstore....

That my ndrive has preloaded maps runs of satellite just like any other gps system dont know whether the ndrive 10 is web based but mine is not.
There is no official release for T4A on Android.
It won't work with Garmap Drive or Ndrive.
There has been a few users on T4A forum experimenting with Navitel. This is Russian software for which they converted the maps to this format, but its by no means an official release and we do not support the app since we cannot convince Navitel to issue us an official release to sell in South Africa.
I am trying to convince iGo to give us an official relase but its a struggle to get them to commit on commercial terms. Same goes for iPhone.
Update: iGo has committed to license their apps for use with T4A data. We are now testing Android and they are setting up the iPad version on iTunes. I am not sure how long this will take, but at least we are making progress commercially.

After mucking around a bit with GPS on Android, I found Sygic which looks to be a really excellent bit of software. Would be great if T4A was available in this format too.
I actually downloaded the offline maps for sygic, 450 Meg's, and yes, it is very nice, only to find out it
was a trial copy and cost about 30 £ and will expire soon.I loaded a lot of apps, but most of the icons
are very small on these, even on a galaxy tablet.
Garmap go off te phone it is now wispilot crap

Will the NAVIGON app support T4A?

We are checking out the new Navigon app but no I cannot think that it will support custom maps.
I am testing our own T4A Android app and it is looking good so far...

Hi Johann
any news on availability of T4A for andriod for the public?
We're hoping to have the final product ready before the end of the year / beginning next year, but I cannot say for certain.
If you haven't done so yet, please send an email to [email protected] so that we can notify you as soon as a final product is available.
Regards,
Anja
