    Default Car Hire?

    Hi there,

Wonder if someone can point me in the right direction here?

We'll have visitors from Aus (Ex-RSA) from 19 March to 9 April and need to rent a car on a limited budget...Only problem is the vehicle needs to accomidate 3 baby seats (and all their prams, nappy bags etc) and those cars cost R1200 - R1800 per day from places like AVIS etc.

The budget is at least 1/3 of what these companies charge.

    Any suggestions?

I think you need to phone around a bit. Yes, expensive it is going to be...... But there is still a few fair prices out there. we rented a AVEO for a week at R1500Excl., inclusive of 250kms per day. Compare written Quote with Written Quote, you will be surprised how these Guys "Sunddenly made a Plan"!!!
Otherwise at the price you suggest, it will be better to buy a "Cheapie" and resell it afterwards...but there is always the risk.....

I shopped around for my honeymoon almost 4 yr back and autoeurope.com (not eurocar) was the cheapest deal (unlimited kms, added driver and insurance). This is pre-booked and paid.

Just one snag I experienced. We booked a Corsa, got there they "upgaded" us to a Chico with radio. They tried to steal the darn thing next to our charlette, in a resort. They deducted a "admin fee", as well as the towing fees. I ended up paying double the rental for that two weeks. After big fights, they reimbursted me about half the money(still ended up paying something like R1200) They did however changed from supplier in the meantime.

When my boet's honeymoon came up, I booked with them again. They (again) upgraded him from a Tiida to a Zafira, but that was without any further insidents.

Thanks for the reply guys. Corsas, Chicos etc. are around R250 per day, affordable yes. But we need to fit 3 baby seats...and the extras like prams.

No way of fitting mom, dad, 3 baby seats, 3 prams, nappy bags for the 3 etc. in an Aveo or the likes.

We need a Microbus, SUV or D/cab of some sorts. When renting in this "market" prices tend to be a bit high.

Went down to the cape a few months ago - 4 adults and 1 baby. Rented a Nissan livina which cost about R500 per day, and fitted us all plus the pram etc, no problem.
