    Default Kirisun Two Way radios

Our company uses Kirisun PT446 two way radios, and personally I think they're brilliant.

We bought them from Mega Telecomunications in Jet Park JHB for R400.

We get clear reception up to about 600m and its definitly NOT in line of sight, as there's BIG workshops between us.

Has anyone heard of these units, or even used them before...?

    Hi Hilton,

Kirisun is one of the better Chinese-manufactured radios that have now hit our shores. They are placed in the "budget" category, but that is not to state that there is anything wrong with them, they just are not branded for the American Milspec 810 specification as many of the better-known makes are.

We have been testing this product, as well as the other Kirisun-branded models, and their performance is second to none. The PT446 model seems to exceed the normal performance levels of many (if not all!) of the other "licence-free" units currently available on the market, meeting the same performance levels of other high-spec units costing twice as much as the PT446.

Unfortunately, the price of R400 per unit is now history...!

I am a 2-way radio tech and was senior tech at the Kenwood agents/importers for 8 years.

Most of the Kirisuns are copies of the older Kenwoods, with slight changes ( in some cases they even came from the same factories in China)

Kenwood has many factories in China, Singapore and Japan.

Kenwood often sell older designs and complete production lines to other companies, for example Arlinco.( and HYT)

The main differance between the Kenwoods and the copies are often only the CPU and software.

I had the oppertunety to inspect a Kirisun portible radio, the quility is as good as a Kenwood, the PCB and frame even had the same part no. as the Kenwood.

Would I buy it?.... Defnitly! its value for money.

PS: I don't work for ANY 2-way radio dealer anymore and my post is not a AD for Kirisun, JUST INFO.

So, are these units 27 or 29 mhz/whatever or are they just plain FM/mobile's ?

Nope. They are licence-free FM units which work in the UHF band, approximately 450MHz.
You should get about 1Km nicely with them in the open, but probably less than half that if they are used in two vehicles along an open road.
