    Default Arb hydraulic jack

My husband just put this on his Xmas shopping list ??

Looks good to me because I am too scared to use our other jack (SWAMBO - Blonde - 56 yrs), and if I am alone in the car I need to be able to change a tyre.

    Has anybody used one ?

There is a thread somewhere here about a local one.
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Just check that it fits into your Hilift mountings on the vehicle.

None of the hi-lift type jacks are ideal for changing a wheel. They are recovery tools and are unstable by nature.

Rather get a small 2-ton trolley jack and have somebody mount it on a plate with up-turned edges.
1996 Patrol 4.2SGL with lots of stuff to make it heavier and thus increase traction?

Depends what you want to use it for. As mentioned above - they are inherently unstable. It also has a flat peg - unsure whether the hydraulic one already has a round accessory as per the mechanical highlift jacks. Then again - if you have a debeading or a flat tyre on a 2 spoor road with a high middelmannetjie at 14h00 summertime in the Kalahari or Namibia - itís nice to be able to lift the vehicle enough to place a bottle jack in the correct place or just change the tyre with the highlift. Instead of digging around in the hot sand. The ARB is light and compact and I have used it to change a tyre where the OEM bottle jack couldnít lift the vehicle high enough. It stays inside its cover inside the vehicle. And yes - you will need a decent piece of metal on the vehicle to use it - bull bar or towbar, etc.
