    Default Satellite phone

I cannot think of another place to post this but feel free to move it to a more suitable heading.

I will be traveling with my wife (lone vehicle) and want to get a satellite phone as a back up for situations where I am hopelessly broken down or emergencies.

Any recommendations on networks, handsets or cost effective ways of achieving this.

Rental is the most obvious way to do this but being from the UK, my only real option is to rent from the UK as I cannot provide a permanent address in SA. UK rental costs are high and 3 15 day trips cover the cost of buying a handset, so I am leaning towards this option.

    All input gratefully received.

Are you renting a vehicle? Vehicle rental companies offer satelite phone rental as an option.

But a satphone is only as good as who you can phone for help.

I have recently purchased a vehicle to be stationed in South Africa.

I have friends in SA that I can contact if required.
