Bennie, if you had a DiD you would have been able to climb that incline in high range .

By the way, have you ascertained whether there is actually something wrong with the Paj or if the problem was with the big nut. You know, the one that holds the steering wheel .

The problem was not the engine power. it was the darn torque converter that would not lock. A manual 3.5 I would have driven out there in hi range easy.

That's why I still say for off road driving a clutch is just so much better.

Bennie manual and auto each have pros and cons, on or off road.

The torque converter only locks up when there is a small speed difference between the input and output shafts. When there is a large difference between the input and output shaft speeds, the input torque gets multiplied by the hydrodynamic action of the torque converter. This is why automatic vehicles are geared higher than their manual counterparts. The torque multiplication is maximized when the output shaft is held stationary. Depending on the torque converter design, this torque multiplication value when the output shaft is stalled (called the stall torque ratio) can be as high as 2.4 or so. If the torque converter is locked, there can be no torque multiplication.

Of course it helps to multiply a higher input torque to begin with and the DiD develops 380 odd Nm to the 3.5's 300 or so.

    Cool

Lucky for me, the ground that I "crashed" against was fairly soft. So no battle scars from that one...
