    From an Aussie forum:

This is my little baby pulling out a Jeep and a Dodge Durango after the Jeep got bogged attempting to pull the big v8 Durango off the crest of a nice size dune.

I chucked the little girl in 4 Low/ Reverse and she didn't even blink an eye... all in a days work.

    Default Epic Fail

Spent the public holiday (16th Dec) testing the off-road capability of my fully laden Botswana Special to learn the limits of it's capabilities. Learnt everything that I needed to on the day. HOWEVER - I did make one HUGE, MONUMENTAL stuff-up. My final test of the day was the handling of the trailer in open water crossings (i.e. simulating a wide river crossing). We walked the obstacle before and have done this water crossing in the Defender (on its own) many times.

Only problem was that I was so busy concentrating on watching the trailer and what it was doing that I didn't pay enough attention to the Defender and what I was doing. Basically I slowed too much and drowned her (see pic attached).

It was then that I learned something about my trailer that I wouldn't otherwise have learnt.
    a) a rubberised Botswana Special is water tight. As in, it keeps water out. So then it floats.
    b) I also learnt that the connected trailer can swing through 90 degrees (jack knife).
    c) I also learnt that a 350kg trailer with 350kg of weight is stronger than the Defender indicator light.

I also learned that repairing a drowned 2.8i Defender is a bit cheaper than a drowned V10 Toureg (sorry WEBlife). The cost to get her going again?
    1 x engine flush
    4l engine oil
    1 x oil filter
    1 x air filter
    2 x diff oil
A bit of manual labour and an early end to play time.

    Default Namib dunes

Thought I share this one with you ... how is this for feeling forlorn?

Namib dunes (between Swakop and Walvis), and a bit of stipidity ...

It needed a lot of digging and some "filly" power to get it out of there ...

    Default InTheGorge misadventures

Did a trip to InTheGorge Adventures on Saturday. It turned out to be quite an experience. Of the 4 vehicles there, 3 got stuck. The clay in the riverbed was like snot after the rains we had. Even with mud terrain tyres there was no traction.

My JK got stuck on a stupid obstacle, the wheels were turning but I was still sliding into the ditch. I was about a foot from the drop off and still sliding. We also ended up attaching a strap from the rear of the Jeep to a tree to stop the back from sliding into the hole.

Again, no traction meant no momentum to get up the slope on the other side. Snot I tell you....

    Let me try, ditto....

These ladies managed to get their Defender well and truly stuck, but winched it free.

I think we need to recruit members like these to assist with every recovery!
