We got stuck trying to get into this mud hole. The isuzu reversed in and I tried to get to it from behind. We couldn't get to it.

No we couldn't get to the mudhole. We could get both 4x4's out. The mud around the hole was like a waterbed.

Default Drowned Sorento at Diggers Hole

Well on Saturday we went to Diggers Hole to go and play a bit. At 'Gold Pan River' we had to do a river crossing and as we have done a couple of watercrossings already, nobody felt like testing the water..... so we send the kids in. I went in first with the Sorento, couple of meters in I stalled the engin, water came in everywhere.

Of course the landy had to recover me . The Sorento was towed home by DefenderBender in his Landy, and today Kia came to fetch it with a lowbed-truck. So I'm waiting to hear what the damages will be . (Oh yes none of the other guys attemted the crossing after me ) I suppose it's the prise you pay for either going first, or stupidity, still trying to figure out which it is .

No, luckily Martin knows where his recovery points are located, we used a shackle with the towrope on both vehicles.

In front of us was a very steep incline, I don't think anything would have been able to recover me against it. AND the shortest route out was backwards!

    Hi Trev,

Thanks man, the guy that helped me to get the water out of the engine was a diesel mac from Secunda, on the mines. Apparently he drowned his Jeep Grand Cherokee at exactly the same place. I've just got to say that since I got involved in the 4x4 thing I've met some of the best people out there. This guy Werner and his uncle that helped me just arrived there and gave up there afternoon to help me to save the Sorrie. The guys that went with me, Simon, Russel, Shaun and Henri were also great with their assistance an I'll join them on a route any day

Hey Canute. I got wet like that about 2 years ago when my bakkie was brand new. Cost my warranty/maintenance plan a fortune. All kinds of stuff had to be replaced

Nee man Henris. Reverse is very often the ONLY way to recover, or are you talking about the vehicle doing the recovery? Even in that case I've had to assist another vehicle while being in reverse myself.
