    Good post.

Interesting, when you post a pic like this, how it creates the assumption that you have to get snatched to get off there, and that I had to go 150km/h to get Barto off there...

We have broken a tow rope before by pulling and then proceeded to just push a vehicle out (5 or 6 guys).

I don't see any vehicle having enough traction to pull a towbar off. Snatching is a completely different story.

I think pierre did it at about walking speed , if that fast. The x3 just needed to get weight back on its wheels to reverse off

I think tow hook is a better option than that tow in screws which get screwed into the bumper !

Other than that silly ball design the usual failures are bolts or carriers.

Didn't you used to say the screw in thing on the Touareg was good for recovery?

Only for gentle pulling. "Recovery" is a broad term.

I have also learned a lot in the last few years and still learning.

In the end you have to make up your own mind but please plan for the worst and use safety bridals and arrestors.

When this happens you quitely press the button and hide away your towhook and says you cannot assist in the recovery ( and take out the umbrella and folding chair and settle down to watch the fun )

We call it sponge sand . Its like a dried up salt pan that compact when you put pressure on it , almost like a dead mussel bank

Well that's definitely not a quick and easy recovery. ....
