Thanks for the reply Erwin, I was considering C13 so this is good to know. My friends are traveling in 4x2 cars, Honda BRV, and VW Caddy. Do you think this route and the D707 will be alright for them?

Yes 4x2 will be fine. Lower tyre pressure to 1.8. HT I would not recommend. Good AT tyre is a must. Keep speeds at 80 and yoi should be fine

HT = Highway Terrain, as opposed to AT = All Terrain.

M&S - Mud and Snow will also be fine.Typically Goodyear Wrangler.

Please assist with the condition of the C20 and C15. What is the best route from Buitepos to Mata-Mata camp?

    Driving between Windhoek and Swakopmund:

Went C28 all the way, but the eastern half of the C28 is quite bad. Even where the road is recently graded, it's graded down to the bed rock and lots of koppies stick out. Plenty of loose stones in other parts.

I then chose another route for the next trip: from Swakopmund on the C28 through the Namib Naukluft Park, then the D1985 and onto the D1982 / C26 via Us pass to Windhoek. Much better road conditions overall.

This weekend I saw a post on the Informante's FB page that the same contractor who started working on Etosha's roads, have also undertaken the rehabilitation of the C14 from Walvisbay to Solitaire.

    Any more confirmation of this?

will have to see. Problem is the road needs to be rebuilt, just grading wont help. On quite a few stretches the road is on the bedrock already.

Just for info, the roads around twyfelfontein are currently in a terrible state, but have heard graders are on the way.

    No official information.

Probably just a re-gravel action. With the shortage of water there regraveling don't last long, it cant be compacted properly and just ravels out, although very good gravels there. We proposed low volume bitumen road some time back just to contain the gravel, as its not economically viable yet to build a proper tar road. Obviously they did not took the advice.

In Etosha it was plain negligence, good calcrete gravels there, but no blading.

That is correct. They are busy collecting money again. I think it is a futile exercise. There are padskraapers that do the road, but there is nothing to skraap anymore. The only thing is to rehabilitate or tar. With the volume of traffic, rehabilitating won'last either. I heard the German government is looking into funding a tar road.

This is great, but surely unlikely to be off the ground by December?
