WAlter - we drove Spreedhoogte not so long ago. Gamsberg road is ok , bit of corrugation here and there, but nothing serious.

THe Hotsas road is more difficult with currugation and sharp stones.

Road report: C10 is in a very good condition. C13 is good with sandy sections. C27 up to Duwisib Castle is corrugated 60km/ph even seemed too fast in places.

Above info from actionman, posted yesterday.

Guys, please feel free to add your info after your trips, always helpfull.

    Thanks

So what's the alternative to C14 to Walvis Bay? Is it worthwhile to get a permit upfront and then cross over to C28 and go straight to Swakopmund? I mean if approaching from Solitaire.

Ok, I phoned the richtersveld park and they informed me the pont and the road are open , they are working on the road to Rosh Pinah but there are traffic controllers regulating the traffic.

You can either get a permit and go past ganab hotsas, or if you do not have a permit, you use the 1998 to the 1982 to the 1985 to the c28.

I see they are preparing to work on the C14 again, hope it goes quick...

Not to get anybody excited, but seems construction on the C14 has started, noticed this when a truck nearly took my side mirror off in the Kuiseb pass.

If anybody is driving the C14 and Kuiseb pass etc, take care as there is movement of heavy equipment etc, but at least this means the road will be improving, great news.

    hey Walter,
what do you mean by "construction" ? just some grading being done, or actual new road being constructed ?

that road was AWFUL when I last drove it in May. Said that I wouldnt drive it again until it was properly graded. It was terribly corrugated. Glad to hear that its being looked at as so many of our guests come from that direction, so many tourists on that road.

Hi Walter, would you mind explaining what the process is for obtaining this permit?

Grading does not help on the C14 anymore, so it is re-construction.

we also can't wait for it to get done, as I have to drive that road to swakop 2 to 3 times a month.

You can get the permit for a few dollars at MIT offices in sesriem, swakop and windhoek. Very easy.

I'm very exited to be visiting Namibie for the first time me and my family alone. Only once been to Keetmans. We have got family in Walvis and will be looking at driving the C13 up to Helmeringshausien, from there the C27 to Sesriem (2 nights at Sososs) and then up to Walvis (thinking of skipping C14 to Walvis using 1998 to 1982 to 1985 and C2.

Thing is that not much are mentioned about the C27 road. Is it worth it and how is the road. Will be in Namibie September 14 to 29th 2013. I suppose that the other option would be to take the C14 up to Walvis all the way from Helmeringhausen?

Back will probably be the B2 and B1 (boring apparently).

16 Stop/Go's on N7 from Citrusdal to Noordoewer. Waiting time 10min. It added 1 hour to our journey. (That's excluding the Wimpy stop at Klawer)

    All B roads were good.

D2743 to Vingerklip is good. Just one section with very fine sand (& dust).

All work on C39 (Outjo/Khorixas) completed.

    C35 in good condition.

D2319 not so good, but acceptable.

    D2359 very good condition.

C35 to Henties in very good condition.

D1983, bad in sections but overall good condition.

C14 towards Solitaire (from Walvisbay side) is in very good condition.

C19 ok, being scraped at the moment.

C27 ok, but still acceptable as far as gravel roads go.

C13 towards Aus (from Helmeringhausen) in very good condition.

C13 through Ai-Ais/Rictersveld in good condition.

Liz and I have just got back to Windhoek. We went Windhoek - Marientaal (tar) - Mata Mata - Twee Rivieren - Rietfontein - Fish River Canyon - Helmeringhausen - Tsauchab River Camp - Windhoek via Spreeshoogte Pass.

All roads in very good condition apart from some corrugations between Solitaire and the Nauchas turning to the Pass and Windhoek.

Don't remember the roads ever being so good - don't yet know about further north - will see shortly. No doubt the lack of rain has had a big influence on road condition but if the rains start . . .
