    Default Trail Ratings

I know there is a lot of discrepancies in how trails are rated, some people will rate a certain trail as a 3, other will think it's not even worth a rating of 1.

I found this interesting link on how to rate trails... Any comments/inputs welcome. Lets hear what you guys think about this system...

very interesting some trails around here in the cape have a 3 rating and i recon some of them you can get around fairly easy with no diff lock nd no low range but the list of yours is a fairly good and interesting guide thanks IAN

I personally use the ratings provided on www.sa4x4.co.za which it a detuned version of what you posted.

Yeah but it also depends on three other very important factors that have to be considered.

1.) The experience of the driver.

2.) The type of vehicle that is been used.

3.) The weather conditions, rain and snow will make a trail more difficult where as dry conditions will be easier.

Another misleading factor is a trail having a rating but it only actually applies to one obstacle.
For example you could have a relatively easy and boring trail which is actually about a 2 being rated a 4 because of one bad section with an escape route.

Like Rooiberg, except they don't even have that one bad section. And they're rated as 5!
