Default Trip Dec / Jan 2011 Naye Naye - Khaudum - Mahango - Buffalo - Mudumu - Mamili -Susuwe

Trip report Dec / Jan 2011 Naye Naye - Khaudum - Mahango - Buffalo - Mudumu - Mamili - Susuwe.

Wet Wet Wet very WET but still a marvellous camping trip! If you are geared with two vehicles it can be managed with some adventure during the wet season.
(must admit without a winch specially in Namibia's Mamili some occasions would have taken MUCH longer, but most of the time we used it to help tourists).

Naye Naye: This time of the year very wet 4x4 needed due to mud. Two vehicles recommended - if you travel in one vehicle take a winch....... or lots of time.

Khaudum: Also very wet with rare animal sightings in the rainy season, also poaching seems still to be a huge problem which we were told by all of the rangers in the park. Seems always the same procedure - the rangers catch them, they tell the tribunal court they were very hungry - they get free - the are back in the park.......
Water was available in Sekereti while North Khaudum didn't had water due to the elephants who messed up everything. At Khaudum we had Hyenas but only did heard the king roaring at night.

Mahango: very nice small park along the Okavango river. No accommodation in the park but plenty on the outside. Opposite of the Mahango across the river is the Buffalo Park. So one can stay here few days by alternating the two parks make a boat cruise visit the Popa falls. For campers I can recommend the Bushmen Camp on the Buffalo side of the river (Goabaca)

Susuwe Triangle, Mudumu, Mamili are all very beautiful with Mamili very the most adventurous due to the loads of water and wildness.
We saw here a herd of 200 plus Buffalo.

Looks like a great trip. The Actros seems unphased by the deep water crossings. One day when I grow up......

I'm going that way over Easter, or the beginning of May. Monday the 2nd is a holiday, as is Wednesday. (Workers day / Cassinga day.) Skip Work on Tuesday and Friday (29 April) and I have a nice little 6 day holiday!!

I'm only going to Kaudom, though. One day each way for driving, and 2 days each at both campsites. Its been a few years since I was there.

    Great pictures

Very nice report! Thanks a lot.
When I saw the truck in front of the wooden bridge, I was wondering what would happen…
I just laughed at the next one!
I hope that I will have the opportunity to discover the area at the green season once…

Thx - Yes was a superb trip, think Easter or May should be SUPER. Presume you do Sekereti, 2x north Khaudum (for me the nicer one due to the scenery) and the Sekereti again? The two sites are 90km apart.

Yes we did …. had to use 2 vehicles, but not without damage – pulled of the complete bumper of the KZ Toyota. Will post video clip in a couple of days.
