    Default Groenkloof 4x4 trail - 27 Dec 2010 - With pics & videos

Did the trail today with my Fiance & sister & brother-in-law.

I was in the Jeep (2005 Grand Cherokee 4.7l V8)
He was in the Nissan (3.3 V6)

Was good fun & the Jeep (Sandton 4x4) did very well seeing as it has Bridgestone High Performance tires on it..

The only places the Nissan did better than the Jeep was where I did not try a something as I was scared of damaging my dads car.

On the steep uphills, the Nissan had to use lots of power & momentum whereas the Jeep just crawled up with tonnes of traction.

I went through the water, entered a bit fast & had water going over the bonnet, up the windscreen & onto the roof .. After that I checked & some water had gotten into the airbox, but as its designed the water drops down & air gets sucked up through the filter.. Next time I wont use so much V8 power so it wont suck so much air & want to suck water..

Now I am busy looking for more trails in Gauteng thats similar in skill level to Groenkloof as the Jeep is my dads so cant damage or break it.

    Here some pics:

More Pics Again All the pics are in Reverse order for some silly reason

I am dying to know if you went through the water.....nice post and hope you are hooked.
By the way i can tell from here that both of you would have made it through those water puddles. You can judge by the landscape of the depth...( i think)

We did go through the water.. the Nissan more times than me, first so we could see the depth..

When I entered the water, i went a bit fast & it came up over the bonnet & over the windscreen onto the roof

Thats when I used the V8 power & floored it

    in this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlYs8...ure=feedu_more

the end section just before he gets out the water was where I entered & went a bit deep

After I finished the crossing, I popped the bonnet & opened the air filter housing & there was quiet a bit of water in there, but lucky its designed that the water drops down & air gets sucked up.

I loved it & want to go again.. I have done some 4x4ing before, we have a old pajeor down in Port Alfred, & I used to go to a quarry type place to play then my dad got a 1998 D1 V8 & I used it a bit around a farm there, but nothing too serious & have loved 4x4ing since then... but this the first time in the Jeep & a proper trail..

yea, it's a nice place for a "first timer"

Dont go after the rain, you will just be driving all the escapes.
