    Default 2008 BK 3.2 Di-Dc GLS SWB - opinions & info needed

    Hi All.

I am currently looking at the model as described in the title. The shorty is in good shape with 181,000km. The current owner (a colleague) received said vehicle from its original owner as a gift and therefore has only had two owners. Colleague is not terribly into these kinds of vehicles and their associated fuel consumption.

I have always been a fan of the Pajero's, and particularly the shorties - we are thinking of buying this as a often runaround. I am able to acquire said vehicle for what seems to be a very fair R145,000.00

    Some questions:
    1. Is 181,000km too much? it appears to be low for the year but should i be worried about that km's?
    2. Any problems relating to this engine? I have also heard that there is quite a hefty and costly service due at 185,000 km - is there any merit in this claim?
    3. Are they difficult to sell later on?
    4. from what i understand they return anywhere from 9 - 10.5km/liter - Is this the case or am I grossly uninformed?
    5. Any other problems that I should be aware of?

Looking forward to your positive opinions.

    Thanks.
    Danny

Well, let me put your mind at ease.

181,000km is incredibly low for the year and for the engine, so youíre good there at the price.

The 3.2DiD has a major service every 60,000km so it is due itís ďexpensiveĒ service 1000km ago. If the current owner hasnít done it, then you now know why he is selling

If I were you I would get a quote from a dealer and then negotiate the cost of the service (that must be done now) from the price, youíre looking at around R8500 - R10000 which is my guesstimate.

Economy will depend very much on how you drive it. In and around town only it can go up to about 15L/100km, and then down to 9.5L/100km on the open road not towing.

    They are incredibly capable
Off-road and a real pleasure to drive, we use it for our family of 4 and we tow a Metalian and itís just so comfortable.

Normal services are around R4800 at the moment.

    Hi KurtG.

    Thanks for the informative feedback.

You are correct in that the current owner is not to keen on paying for the "big" service and as they are not really into 4x4'ing cant seem to justify the costs. Not a problem for me though. I suspect we will have much joy from this vehicle. I will be taking it for a test-drive on Friday so will be reporting back on the final decision. i have added a few pics.

Not much that I can add to this, other than let us know when you double the mileage. Maintain well and you will see more than triple these figures
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

    Hi All.

Just a follow on. So I have finally come to a poi t where I can make an offer on the 2008 SWB Paj. Vehicle now has 183,000km. It has a broken roght rear tail light and some minor interior imperfections on the various carbon fibre-look trim details. It also need 2 new rear tyres.

According to dealer this car trades for R145k and retails for R166.1k

I am considering an offer of R151k. The owner seems willing to let this girl go at that price. What is your view? Is this a good price?

    Costs to spend post purchase
    R185KM servise approx R9000
    2 tyres - R4400
    Registration: +-R1500
    = R165,900....

Looking forward to your expert advise.

    Regards

    Total coat is therefore

Why so much for the 185k service? There are some good indies around PTA. I get Goodyear Wrangler 265/75R16's for ~ R1800 per tyre here in Bloem, I'm sure you'll get it cheaper somewhere in Gauteng. Good luck!

THank you Jens78 for the feedback. That price was quoted from a very reputable Mitshubishi indy. I have however subsequently made contact with another indy who has indicated a far more reasonable price. anyway, I'll see how it goes, the offer was accepted and we are now in the process of sorting out the right rear tail light which the current owner will claim for through their insurance.

May I ask that you please provide me with the contact detail for the tyre dealer where you get your Wranglers from? My dad is in Bloem on a weekly basis so I will ask him to pick up a fresh pair of boots for me. THe price (R4400) that i have been quote was from a dealer in Menlyn on a pair of Hankook dynapro's - priced at R1,772.22 ea (excl vat) and fitment another R226.09 ea (excl VAT). Total price was R4,336.11 for the two tyres.

So, roughly 2 weeks ago I finally picked her up.

The previous owner really dirtied the interior and it seemed like the car has not been cleaned in ages. Took me about 4 1/2 hours to get her into a respectable condition. She will be going for a steam valet this Saturday to get rid of some sticky finger marks left on the roof liner. She's also visited Mitsitech in Alberante and got a proper service and had the brakes done.
