Did you enjoy the trip? Glad to see you are happy with the Ironman setup.
Is it as bad as that? We had a Scoobie Forester with us and it has no problems whatsoever (barring the [email protected] they are shod with), and I'm sure the Pajero has better ground clearance than the scoobie (at least it looks like it does)

Simon, I have a long range tank fitted underneath at the back. Add to that that the car was loaded to the brim and the tyres deflated for the river section, plus the pajero's rather long overhang at the back - the clearance with the standard suspension is just too low for my liking.

Agree that you would probably only have to be very carefull down at the river, but when you travel alone like I did, I prefer to eliminate any potential risks.

Talking about the river section - this was the only area where we did encounter some other vehicles. Everyone was gunning down this section like mad - dust and what not flying all over the place, whereas the pajie took it with a comfortable stride - the traction control only kicking in here and there. The guys are realy screwing up the place with their driving techniques - (or inferior vehicles!)

Bennie, yes, the trip was awesome. Posted some pics under "Northern Cape" section. I am very happy with the Ironman. It provided the lift and stability under load which I was looking for.

I drove the Pajero over the small obstacle course at De Wildt yesterday. I collected about half a cube's worth of sand in the sidesteps, rear bumper and tow-bar due to it being so low. I also ploughed ditches at the bottom of every obstacle with my tow-bar. I definably need a lift.

Thought I would post these pics, of my Colt coming of age.

Unfortunately very poor quality, as my camera went walkies recently, so I had to use an el cheepo standby.

AFAIK the Gen1 was discontinued in 1990/1991.
