Default Stills for stills, Video for video.

Many of the latest still cameras are capable of capturing video material, even in HD form. In my conservative opinion I think that the still camera should be regarded as just a still camera, with just the occasional video clip. Video cameras are also capable of capturing stills, albeit with lower quality.
The problem, as I see it, is the way in how the still camera stores these captured videos, usually on a SD card or similar.
This relates to only about 12 minutes recording on a 4GB card when shooting on Full HD, or about 24 minutes when shooting in standard mode.
Video cameras on the other hand, stores the footage on an internal hard drive and/or directly on a DVD with the benefits of larger storage, editing and ease of viewing the footage, without any programs needed for downloading.
There are also some issues on obtaining the correct focus on a still camera(SLR's) when recording videos. It is recommended that manual focus should be used when capturing video footage. I can see myself trying to hold the camera with one hand, adjusting the focus and zoom with the other, and capturing footage at the same time!
So to summarize, Stills for stills, Video for video.
This is my opinion, what is yours?

Should cellphones then stay cellphones and not have watches on them?

It is progress! Personally I would love to have less stuff to carry around.

Just get some goodies from Hoodman in the states (www.hoodmanusa.com), for view finding and holding the camera.

Agree, but if I want a watch, I don't buy a cellphone, I am with you with the stuff to carry around, pity the progress is a bit slow, compact digital camera's was able to capture video clips since I can remember.

Very nice Dirk, and not that expensive, but by the time I attached all those goodies to the camera and myself, the lions would have finished off their kill.

I bought the Lumix TZ7 because I wanted a camera that could do point and shoot .... stills and HD video. Added a 16GB sd card when I bought it. @ 720p I shot more than an hour of video and well over 1000 photos during out 4 week holiday in Namibia. Downloaded once during the holiday.

Each to their own. I enjoy of having a compact camera capable of HD video and 10x zoom. And I don't have to carry a backpack for all the goodies.
