Default Tunisia - Anyone ever been there from this forum?

Yip - you guessed it, i have to go there for a conference!

some bright spark thought it would be cool for me to fly 15 hours or more and still be in africa !

May not be too bad on the Mediteranean.

Any heads up on what to see, do, or NOT Do appreciated.

    Randy,

I've not been personally, but friends have. From the sounds of it, the Med coast is quite touristy and westernised, but inland is much more traditional and Islamic. Be aware of local dress sensitivites especially once you leave the beach. Enjoy Tunis if you go there, but have your wits about you, and try and go with a local. There is some fabulous off-roading to be had.......but it's the Sahara. Don't take liberties!

I've been to Tunisia back in 2008 to Monastir. It was a great place to visit - very beautiful beaches. The locals are friendly but it's important to definitely keep a more covered up dress code. There are great driving opportunities too so don't forget to check that out.

Been to Djerba island for a conference over December. Hired a scooter and drove all over the place. Went more inland to visit some farms and agricultural institutions. Very interesting to see how they conserve water. Although Muslim there is quite a presence of western life style. Very safe. Enjoy!!
