    Default mercedes ml 500 ?

I want to go to Moremi in October 2010 and have a Mercedes ML 500 in the group, will it have enough ground clearance? Has anyone done this trip?

Is this ML a W163 or W164(with offroad package)?

It would help to know which model it is.

    I have a standard W164.

The old W163 suffered from lack of ground clearance. Mine has adjustable air suspension which allows for 290mm ground clearance and a very clever off-road programme.

I have safely let the tyres on mine down to 1.2 Bar and if you want to fit off-road biassed tyres Goodyear have the correct size in their MTR range. You can set the maximum allowable speed in the onboard computer so you won't exceed the speed rating of the tyres(This is a saved setting and in the event of an accident can be read via computer for insurance purposes).

I managed to damage the plastic chassis cover when a truck dropped its entire turbo with inlet pipe onto the road in front of me, thought I was in for thousands in damages but it only cost me R749.00 to replace with labour included.

Keep in mind the suspension will not raise if you hitch a trailer to the vehicle.

I doubt it will have any problem with normal overlanding.

I agree with Koebelwagen, thanks for the information about the W164.

I did many 4x4 trails with standerd and modified ML W163. Ground clearance is the only problem. Larger AT tyres help and suggest to do that for your Moremi trip.

You'll find RAV's and Freelanders in Moremi quite often. so ask your friend if he has more confidence in his ML than in a Freelander ......
