Default Old Boys river trip feedback.

A few years ago Andre suggested we do the river trip and from then has grown to my annual must do event. Well another one has com and gone and each with his own story. The vet PE spietkop drove all the way down from PE with mellow yellow after he joined me last year dec. Being in good company his jeep even behaved with its fuel consumption. But here is the story. The whole truth.

    Thursday

Spietkop arrives from PE and we got to join the guys at the GTG. He was itching but contained himself. He kept us awake till all hours of the night just saying how he wants to move to joburg. Then the snoring started.

    Friday

Got up, packed, gooied the DATSUN on my trailer, packed a banana or two, one bread and away we go! In Pietersburg I left the trailer and volksie at Lanjero that got such a fright looking at the fierce standard Datsun that he faked a rib injury and stayed. We slept there with Andre and Merle at a lodge Friday and got ready for the next days trip.

..........the sight off all sights unfolded in the lodge. Vet Spietkop fell in love with his pink Victorian style bedroom and duvet set. We caught him bundling the duvet up and snuggled up falling in love with the pink duvet........he converscated our pictures and then threatened us with the jail should we publish.............

    Saturday

With my own personal chef loaded [bosvelk aka Frans aka dikkes no 2] we met at Mooketse. John got so terrified of the Datsun last year that he swopped his diesel motor for a Petrol one. age is a terrible thing. The forgot about the conversion and stopped at the diesel pump. being very effective he soon joined us with petrol in his tank. It is a petrol driven landy after all. As we entered the saturated soil the fun started. Now with landrovers around we soon had to pull the Pofadders out. They landies in fact kept us entertained the whole weekend. Nonstop. They were the first to get severely stuck and also the Last. So the start off was good fun. The riverbed would have been undriveable should it have been wet all the way. You would follow tracks, so when the second vehicle would pass the would be water and the third woul get stuck. The whole riverbed would move when driving over it. The locals will dig 20cm to get to water for washing etc.

Then came braaitime. Like usual mine is bigger than yours. Adriaan picked up a very heavy log that kept us busy for a while. Very busy. So eventually it was spietkops jeep and the monster landy in tandem. At the campsite they could no more and the datsun had to be there for the rescue. We left Frans to do the camp [been hiding his tent] only to come back to a very puzzled man about the whereabouts of his tent. The spietkop for the first time ever braaied on REAL wood [not gas] and surprised us all! The chef only neglected to give me pudding the first night. He got such a hard time that we were served double portions the next night

    Sunday

Up again and ready to go. Some places became more and more interesting with less water and more rocks. Nonetheless the fun factor never stopped and the usual ripping off etc did not stop. Simon AGAIN got severely stuck where everyone could go through. Dirk was his usual squishy yellow marshmellow and not keen to join us on the more severe inclines replying "nou hoekom wil ek dit staan en doen!" moffie. The pictures says a thousand words.
Willies Rangie decided it needed a long rest. Henry and John towed Willie along as we started scouting a piece of the river we have never gone into. It was the usual hunt for dry logs for another stay over

    Monday

Willie was on his way back behind the landy and we went on scouting. Rock crossings and sand and then the soft waterlogged sand. Now there was water in about every hole. So Dirk went for a drive to be followed by adriaan just incase Dirk got stuck. Well need I say more. Trying to get adriaan out Dirk was also stuck. Then simon got stuck. Then the DATSUN, then one out. and so on. Monay night it was out to a resort and tuesday back home.

.......to be completed with pics. those with a story, post it here and download the pics as well

This year lived up to all expectations. Good company. Good venue.

Mine is bigger than yours. (The LC also went up that rock)

Of coarse the Prado had to run to Tzaneen to save the day. Yes, that is a s/shaft in his right hand, hidden behind his back.

The Musina clan. Left to right. Owen, Hettie(Holding the camera) and Jeane(3months). Ian and Patty. Henri, Helen and Lissa. Paul and Dalene

And the lady that did not stand back one step for any of the obstacles that the men tackled. This is her first River Trip, driving herself and her own car. Helen also has a code 14 drivers licence. Also drives the 30tonne crane from time to time. And then the cherry on the cake, one helluva cook.

    Sometimes people are "misguided"

This was how we got into camp. Took 2 LR's and myself to get it out of camp. She just didn't want to leave.

And then the Letaba taught everybody some manners. This is the "pudding" we play on in the Limpopo. It will catch you out, every time.

Last night of the trip. What more can you ask for.

Last but not the least. The first Jeep on a Letaba River Trip

Jis nou is ek hartseer om dit te mis. Hoe lyk julle briek linnings na die naweek? Seker shot na al die sand. Ons rivier lyk soos daai poeding en na 1 dag se jol is die linings gone weg huistoe.

    Lyk soos lekker hakskeen wereld.

In totaal gaan ek seker so 3400km gery het.

Thanks gents, it was a great trip!

First time I tasted 7up mixed with mampoer - which fuelled the "generator" hidden in Herman and Frans's tent

Loads of mud and water at the end with multiple recovery's, and as usual the DuDsin was stuck everywhere.
