Mitsubishi Triton Canopy

I am new to this forum, and new to 4x4'ing.

I just traded my Nissan NP300 Hardbody for a 2010 Mitsubishi Triton 3.2 Double Cab 4x4.

I am currently looking to purchase a canopy, but would like to receive advice. The Bucco canopy that I had on my Nissan tended to scratch the tailgate with its glass door.

Which canopy would you suggest and what should I look out for when I fit a canopy to my bakkie?

I have fitted an Alpha (supplied by Bucco) after it was initially fitted with an Andy Cab - I'm very happy. Kit include a tape strip to prevent tailgate scratch. Talk to Hendrina 012 335 9898.

All I can say is that I wasted R8000 by fitting the wrong canopy for my needs. If you are planning to use your bakkie for camping trips then do your self a huge favour and fit a canopy with windows that open upwards/downwards on the sides giving you unrestricted access to your load from the side. The only two canopies I know of that provide this are the African Outback and the Alu-cab. Yes I know they are 20-25% more expensive than fibre glass canopies, but worth every cent in my opinion. If you ever planned to fit a roof rack on the fibreglass canopy, you dont have to with an alu canopy so then the cost is the same. And you can also build a kitchen in to the side opening window, like on this thread here: http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/...Outback+canopy

I purchased the Alu-cab canopy and am very, very happy with it. I chose it because of negative comments on this forum about water leaks on the African Outback.

I agree with this! Allthough you guys will be surprised on how much fibreglass canopies cost nowadays compared to alucab ones. Some of them as much as R 13 000.00 or more.

Then the okes saw me coming with my canopy!

I got the Carryboy canopy and it set me back about 17k. It has lovely soft padding on the inside, a very bright light inside....which all is a collosal waste in my opinion.

Yes it looks really good dont get me wrong but from a practicality point of view its not really very useful at all.

IIRC, for a canopy for my clubcab, colour coded and with 2 of these side doors it was about R13K, which is a bit cheaper than the aluminium canopies with side doors.

I had Carry Boy first. Good Canopy. Fitted by SA Canopy in Parow Industria. Very nice people. When I sold it they removed it and refitted to the purchasers vehicle. Touched up the paintwork at no charge and have promised to touch up my vehicle where the canopy scuffed it. I paid about R14k in 2007 and sold the canopy for R6k hence my comment on losing R8k.

I must say I cannot understand why the inside of the conopy should be upholstered and would not have bought the canop in the first place had I known it would be. It prevents you fibre glassing mounting points on for varies fittings and the vinyl gets damaged if you have rubbish in the back or a load shifts.

Exactly what I thought. My old man actually burst out laughing at me and made some comment about a softy canopy!

For me it gets back to having no use...allthough the carryboy is fiishes the vehicle off very nicely in my opinion...anyway,whats done is done I suppose

But if you plan on a roof rack the R4500 for that takes it to a similar price for an Alu-Cab. And an Alu canopy is 25% lighter.

This is an optional extra... And if you take this option, your window gets replaced by a solid cover. Not a bad thing, but just to inform you,,, This opening door is NOT a window... Although I have seen fibre glass canopies with glass window's that opens like this

I also bought a Carryboy for my Triton... The carryboy was only going to be used for camping... So the canopy was lying under the carport for 6 months. I've never even fitted it once!!

I sold the canopy last week, and got myself an Alucab as well....

The Alu-cab is not "Pretty"... but its functional !!

Oh... and if you decide to go for a fiber-glass canopy... Carryboy is the one to go for... It's the nicest looking canopy of all the canopies I've seen on a Triton (my opinion though) !!

It was something like R950 per side door. Not that I care, I don't have a canopy because I don't want a canopy.

I ended up fitting an Aero fiberglass canopy as the price for the Alu-cab was too much for my liking. My recommendation would be go for the Alu-cab

Carryboy and the new shape beekman are still the best looking on the tritons.The beekman is similar to the one in your pic
