Default Shopping in Polokwane and best route to Blyde

    Hello,
2 questions in the same post :

    1) Where is the best place (GPS coordonates would be great) to make a complete shopping in Polokwane before a self drive (groceries, fresh food, wine, and all kind of thing you can need in addition of the camping gears such as batteries, tools, soap, extra cooking items....all the things you cannot bring from home or forget to bring)

    2) What would be the fastest route to make Polokwane-->Echo cave (take south via the R37 or north via the R36 ) ?

    1. Do your shopping at Savannah centre ( Google coord 23,54,16,07S 29,29,14,29E)

    2. Camping equipm. at LA SPORT (23,53,44,73S 29,26,59,68E)

    3. The shortest route from Echo caves to Polokwane would be the R37 but there are plenty of donkeys, cattle and human beings on the road -- take it slow ( the road is called "the road of death" )

even on the R36 you will find cattle, donkeys etc.

    1) Savannah Centre will probably be the easiest.
    23 54.218'S
    29 29.209'E

    2) The shortest route will be via the R37, but I would advise against it. It is very busy and the vehicles on that route are not road worthy.

Personally I would suggest you go via R71 to Tzaneen.
Then the R36. That will take you into the Drakensberg and then you can plan a route from there.

I would also suggest you take the Drakensberg drive slowly and gently. Very slow going and very scenic. It will be worth your while to budget extra time for that.

Many thanks for all your accurate infos

According to your advices, i think I'll take the north road via Tzaneen.
Do you think I can make Palapye (botswana)-->Echo cave in one day ?
