Default Jeep guys are going to get it all back from the Landy guys...

    I didn't know this....

Seems after all the jokes that have been bandied about as far as Land Rovers being Tatas have come back to roost on the Jeep guys...

    We're going to get it.

Seems Jeep/Chrysler has been bought by...

    **weep***

    FIAT.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-0...in-europe.html

Jeep will become the premium brand while Chryslers will be badged as Lancias in Europe....

Thank God for small mercies - at least Jeeps keep their badge... even if they are Fiats now....

    be gentle Landy guys...

Fiat, which also owns Maserati and Ferrari, is trying to share engines and other parts among models from Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Alfa Romeo

and if they do pack up they fix 'em...

might not be such a bad deal....

    Indeed!

It's funny how the guys who own Uno's will always refer to the parts sharing in terms of Uno's sharing some parts with Ferrari (The Ferrari sticker on the Uno side panel), while the Ferrari guys know that only works the other way around. Ferraris now come with Uno parts

well, I have to say... I'm quite impressed with the current Fiats.

Fantastic cars and I've always loved Ferraris of course.

Actually Alfas are great to. Love them. no really I do, brilliant...

    ah well.

lets see - the dream car is one styled by Italians, mechanical design by the Germans, trimmed out by the British and built by the Japanese....

We now have one styled by the Americans, with a Mercedes motor and suspension and built by the Italians....

    oh well....

    A Lambo!
Though the interior is German. But hey, atleast everything inside also works!
Never been much of a Ferrari fan. They're just not pretty enough. It just doesn't look like a supercar as much as a Lambo does.

I think that this is good news. I'd rather have a Fiat than a Tata.

As far as the Ferrari association goes, I remember reading years ago an interview with Michael Schumacher where he stated that his everyday car was a Jeep Cherokee.

Cannot wait for a Ferrari with a transfer case

I must admit this might be a good thing.. Jeep guys will now spend more time in the garage and trails will not be so over crowded.. It will be like having an Alfa.. you will be building bonds and all that..

The funny part is go look and see who owns a large stake in Fiat!

At least my Pajero is 50% decent (styled by Pininfarina and built by Japanese), if judged on the definition above. I can't think of another brand that scores two out of four, or am I missing something?

So just why did you lads think I bought a Jeep, mmmm?

Keeping it in the family. Fiat aquired a major share in GM when all the global economies where crashing along with the American motor industry.

Been happily driving Alfas since just before my 21st birthday. Fiat bailed Alfa, Lancia, Ferrari and Maserati out of their financial problems years ago, and kept the brands alive since then. In fact there was parts swopping going on years before already (grantedly mostly trim, and probably due to the influences of Bertone, Pininfarina)

Fiat initially bought some shares in GM a few years ago already, hence the GM influenced (if not based - all depends who you're talking to) in the 159, Brera, Spider. Don't get me started about them losing the Alfa sparkle... Surprise - ASAIK there's an interest in TATA too - and talk about using some Jaguar bits in Alfa's planned move back to RWD.

It's not a bad thing. As long as the short little men who can't talk slowly or without waving their arms about are involved, passion should remain, and along with it <he says, waiting for the howls of protest> that elusive ingredient that the the Japs and often the Germans so struggle to build into their cars: character.

Oh Apoc: you can break an Alfa diff - you weld it up to lock it, and then you go race it at Killarney for a few seasons. It'll pack up eventually. Unfortunately the LS Alfa diffs are hard to come by these days, they're mostly in Fords, mazdas etc - all the rwd classic race cars...
