    Default Snow in Gauteng

Last year was the first time I went up to Matroosberg to hit some snow, and I've since moved up to JHB.

Where are the areas to find some snow spots here? Is the closest the Drakensberg?

There was quite a bit of slate on the East Rand some years ago.

Himeville, Underburg area for sure. ie. Sanipass.
Dont know of the Clarens area though.

If you have a passport - GO TO LESOTHO for sure.

go to the afriski website and you can hook up to the weather link.

you can then at short notice plan a trip. OR watch this space, for any other members who are going to freeze their butts off

So we're planning a Snow Searching trip in July - on the weekend after the World Cup finals.

Anyone know of some good places to go to that we'll definitely find snow? Ideally we're looking for a spot about 4-6 hours from Johannesburg.

We plan on leaving Friday after work and getting a good 4 hours drive in, sleeping over and then hitting the next stretch the next day, then coming back on the Sunday, probably back in JHB much later that night. I just have no idea of places to go to!

Monitor this site to check for snow in Lesotho. You can also link the view to GE and zoom in a bit more if I remember correctly

    Hey,

Volgende trip sal ek graag saam gaan. Lekker tye !

    Snow searches!!

Why dont go scoot through to Clarens. Stay @ Rebellie Game Farm. Contact Nic Prinsloo.

Drive up the 4x4 mountain trail for breathtaking views over Lesotho (I am pretty sure you will find snow)

Upon return, soak up in your private jacuzzi in your chalet.

The next morning, be sure to do the Kloof 4x4 trail. Quite tricky, but I've managed with my terrano.

If al fails and there's no snow to be seen, you can always head out and do some restaurant crawling in Clarens....

Be sure to take enough warm clothes.

Enroute from EL to Jhb on N6 about 100km BEFORE Aliwal (this place had NO snow). It was snowing as we were driving. First time in 30 years for me . It was just after Queenstown (+-20km) if I recall correctly.
