    Default Buzzards

    Hi,

Can someone help me ID this bird? Taken between Durbanville and the N7.

There are lots of what Steppe Buzzards along the N7 (I think), but this one was much darker. Also has a bit of a white / chestnut patch on the chest.

Could it be a Jackal Buzzard, or just a darker Steppe Buzzard?

    Thanks,
    Greg

Definitely Jackal Buzzard. Note that on the West Coast you occasionally find Jackal Buzzards with mainly white breasts a la Auger Buzzard.

The raptor looks like a Fish Eagle. The other bird is a Puffback Shrike.

    Default Bird ID Riverclub Johannesburg

    Hi all
I have these birds at my bird feeder in riverclub johannesburg. I initially thought maybe female southern masked weavers but these ones eyes are black, not red). Any thoughts? Also funny "spectacles" over the eyes?
    Thanks!

Would still say female southern masked or at least a juvenile

The red eye isn't always that obvious

Taken on Park Island, Zandvlei, Cape Town yesterday. I've looked at the cisticolas and the prinias to no avail. Anyone?

This is a hooded vulture, not an immature lappet-faced, isn't it?

Picture taken by Jamo on the Chobe river between Serondela and Ngoma in early April

    Thanks

Now for some more LBJ's seen at Strandfontein on Saturday.

I'm sure the first one is a Levaillant's Cisticola but can the second one be an African Reed-Warbler?

Again I would suggest a Lesser Swamp Warbler (Cape Reed Warbler)

When was the photo taken? African Reed-Warbler migrate to central Africa in winter.
