    Default I agree!

I have a Musso, recently overhauled the engine and gearbox and I would like to get to know other Musso owners aswell! I am fairly new to 4x4ing and have learned a lot with my Musso, the only complaint I have is that there is a lot of BS out there and not a lot of experts on Musso/Merc engines.

    Default Musso in Action

    Hi Offroad junky

Thought that you sold the Musso long ago. look like a nice outing. Pic 7 almost give the imprsiion that you did not engage to 4 wheel drive. Not bad.

Unfortunately I did not take any pics of my "trok" on the lekke roads but we were visiting Mabelingwe last week and whilst game viewing drove all the back roads and 4x4 only roads without any difficulty. I dont go looking for 4x4 playgrounds but love to drive all the access roads on such ocations rather than keeping to platkar roads.

It is a pity that SY is basically down the drain as I am really enjoying my "Trok" for its purpose and with the Odo on 193000.

The SsanYong is NOT a bad 4x4! Don't get me wrong, the low range gear ratio is so low you don't need a turbo and the interior is just so BIG, especially the back! Swambo loves it because she never drives fast so i might just keep it as her everyday drive and get me the Disco V8.

    Tsitsikamma
    On the family farm
    Trail is similar to Brakkeduine
My cousin is developing a quad track and currently have 6km available
4x4 route about 8km that only a privilege few currently use
My Boet has burnt out his Syncro engine on one of the dunes a few years ago
at brakkeduine the Syncro went through like a charm

Once the track is open for visitors we'll keep you posted
and get the EC guys there first

Well, the Musso will probebly be on it's way tomorrow or by the weekend. I'm trading it in on a 2004 Terracan 3.5 V6 Auto. The ONLY complaint I;ve got about the Musso is it's DEAD SLOW on the open road and uphills and overtaking trucks...

We went to George for the Easter weekend and it Frustrating at the best of times trying to overtake or just go uphill with a dully laden Musso...

I'll know by 10 am tomorrow morning about the trade-in...

I wanted R40 000 for it and they offered me R34 000. I told them it's ok then, I'll keep the Musso.... They quickly came up with the other R6000 to give me the R40k...8)

My Musso, the 602 EL without a turbo, had 131 000kms on the clock and the interior was in a VERY good condition. According to the REG papers it's a 1999 model but when I went to the stealers for parts and they checked the VIN number, they told me it was a 1996 model...!!!

Outside it had some minor scratches from bushes that I polished out myself and it had 4 new 4x4 tyres on. I was still going to replace the torsion bars and coils in the rear and then I was planning to do gearbox and then buy a 2nd motor with a turbo but why spend all that cash if the car is that old plus I'll feel a lot better when swambo drives a car that is a lot more reliable.

Granted, a musso without a turbo is like a snail (with a turbo). Fortunately, mine is a turbo, and overtaking is not a problem. I had 270 000 km's when I ran into problems with the engine, but this was more due to mechanics not doing a proper job. I end up overhauling the complete engine and gearbox myself over a period of 2 years and end up paying about R40k, but now I have a "new" musso again which will 'hopefully' last another 20 years. Just imagine...

I am currently on my third SSangyong. My first normally aspirated Musso did 300,000 km and I believe is still to be seen driving around the East Rand.
My next one had a turbo and the only reason I sold it at 120,000 km was because I could get a good deal and need to adjust my car allowance.
I now have a Rexton three litre automatic sitting at 97,000 km.
No major problems, other than one of my own making. A pity about the service from the agents but, hey! this is Africa! I never lose my temper, speak slowly and clearly and make sure they understand what I'm saying. And don't accept slapdash.

Last year I went to Okavango and up to Chobe, this year we are going to Nxai Pans and back down to Okavango. How do I post pictures?
I do a lot of shooting over dogs and spend a lot of time up on the Springbok flats and a variety of farms all over South Africa.
Last year I drove to Cape Town in one go overnight and then my wife and I drove up to Sutherland and all the way up to Kimberley on dirt roads. Fantastic!
This year will be driving up from Cape Town after the Cape Town Book Fair to the Cedarberg, along the West Coast and up to Augrabies on the way back to Johannesburg.
We live out of town, so I carry all kinds of cargo, from sheep to firewood. But it is my company car so gets cleaned up for business during the week.
I often tow a large dog trailer the body of which I take off at my destination to use as a kennel, and I also have been known to load a blue wildebeest all by myself onto the flatbed using a tick-tock winch. Tell me how to post pictures, and I will oblige

    Howzit,

    No what/when/how/where are weekend/day trials?

Will do uploads this weekend....oficially I am sick in bed with pneumonia

PS I've often commented on the lack of enthusiasm from so many SSangyong dealers. It ocurred to me this morning that the dealership in Halfway House is about the only business in the area not flying an SA flag!

Just back from a trip to KZN.
What matters is that I not only pulled a trailer, but had 6 adults (if you consider students audlts) in my Rexton. The back seat was v comfortable they say.
We brought back the whole lot, plus afgeslagde kudu, blue wildebees, impala and blesbok in trailer. Power no problem.
