    Mnet = R300pm
    BBC = R2.50pm

I cancelled my account with NoChoice last month.

I am getting the feeling they are finally waking up and realizing they might have a problem on their hands......but somehow I just cant see them cutting the monthly R600 in half in order to not loose customers.

Also some more info regarding the cost of TopTV etc etc taken from www.myadsl.co.za

    ********************************

Just got an email from an authorized odm installer.Apparently they had a meeting with ODM today.

1 The toptv box will retail for R700,incl dish and installation.
2 The box is refundable,if you cancel you'll get a pro rata refund.
3 The smart card, decoder and your cellno are married together...and the service can only be activated by an approved installer.
4 A nice feature...the installer's commision is calculated based on a rating given by you.

Here's the costs for channel bolts.(7 levels)

    1 Basic = R99

    For R159 you can choose:
    2 Basic + kids & music
    3 Basic + sport
    4 Basic + doccies
    5 Basic + movies

    For R199 you can choose:
    6 Basic + any 2 of above (kids/sport/docs/movies)

    7 Premium = R249 all inclusive.

They will also subsidized 100% of communial systems to be upgraded to include toptv, the subscriber wiill then only need a stb.

Diskless DVR (record to usb) will be activated year end via a firmware upgrade.

Competition is always a good thing.

Right from the start ask for two power cables, that is SUB standard.

And remember DO NOT STEAL. the Receiver does not like competition.

The initial R699 installation fee including Top box, Dish, Cables an Smart Card is wrong.

    From the www.myadsl.co.za forum....

    ******
A recent direct mail from TopTV indicated that for R699 a new subscriber will get a TopTV decoder (STB), an 80 cm satellite dish, installation, smart card and all supporting equipment like RF & RCA cables and a remote control.

ODM however now said that this price is not correct, and that the dish, decoder and installation charge at launch will be even lower than R699. The company would however not divulge the price before the official launch date.

    ****

I love it, apparently DSTV has lost more than 60 000 subscribers this month allone in the anticipation of TopTV. I am one of them, although I cancelled in March allready.
NoChoice even phoned me 2 weeks ago to enquire as to the reason I have cancelled my subscription with them. I gave it to them straight and the guy on the other side just giggled when I asked him "if he had many more ex-customers to phone"

I can see many more joining the 'Topside' soon.

    5 days to go...... woot

jd please keep on posting the updates here.

I am more tempted by the day ..... AND if nobody moves over nochoise is given the go-ahead to "work us over" even more. So maybe 699 is a small price to pay to get the message accross.

Even if i dont watch tv i'm tempted to do this just to give NoChoice a kick in the A&s. Nochoice are useless monopolists

The problem NoChoice is facing is a catch 22.

If they lower their price from R540/month down to say R295/month in order to compete with TopTV, then all their existing subscribers will be furious, asking why all of a sudden they can do it now, and not 15 years ago.

If they don't lower their subscription, their subscribers would soon ask the question, 'how can TopTV give us what they are giving and you cant' (this is in two years time when TopTV can also buy into the Supersport contracts)

Also, TopTV makes use of the Sirius 4 satellite that broadcasts over most of Europe too. If you go to the website listing all the available content being broadcasted from that satellite, then it would be quite possible for TopTV to surpass NoChoice in the variety of channels shown. I rember visiting my parents in Holland and having a list of over 200 channels available for 16 Euro's/month.

The problem wont be noticeable right now, but as soon as TopTV broadcasts the same sport content as NoChoice, then I am sure the questions will become overwhelming.

So yes, Nochoice has been behind us all along......... using no Vaseline.

    Some new news from www.teeveetee.blogspot.com

    ***************
I can exclusively reveal first that the new TopTV decoders which I showed you RIGHT HERE first have been received by shops who will start to sell them from this Saturday.

Shops are under strict orders and super embargo's by On Digital Media (ODM) NOT to display the TopTV set top boxes (STB) before this Saturday, 1 May, which is the first date that they can go on sale. I can tell you that the TopTV STB will be sold by outlets like Checkers, Hi-Fi Corporation, Jet, Checkers etc. from Saturday.

What potential new satellite TV subscribers to TopTV needs to do is go to one of these shops selling a TopTV STB and buy one of the decoders. A subscriber then needs to call On Digital Media who will send a subscriber a list of three installers to choose from. A subscriber then choose an installer. The accredited installer - which the subscriber will not be paying at this point - goes out and does the standard installation. The accredited installer will supply a 90cm satellite TV dish, as well as a cable up to 20 metres. It's also the installer who will activate the service once the installation is completed.

Just thinking of the logistcs ...

By now (end of the month) No-choice is already processing their debit orders for May.

Anybody know when in May I need to give notice to them to cancel my subscription to be effective end of May ?

At least this gives a bit of time for TopTV to sort out their teething problems.

Just called on of the local stores here and yes do they have the products but may only sell them on Saturday, once you have your unit, you then call 0860086788, give your details and they will supply you with the names of three installers in your area and then you chose who does the installation.

Contract is month to month, verbally over the telephone.
