try this link for Cape Nature. Try also to camp as far from the picnic area as possible as I see they aloow up to 120 day visitors.

It's a very popular place. Could be a bit hectic with the current hot weather
It's right in the middle of the mountains at Bains Kloof. You can swim in the rockpools and hike the trails.
And there is a nice bush pub a few km down the road

haven't been there since the mid 70's, it was a family favourite and one new year we even had the Coon carnival come through the camp.

I've been there about 2 years ago.
Enjoyed every minute - rock pools to swim in etc.
Some pools can be a bit crowded during peak times - lots of day visitors.

If you'd like to be "far from the madding crowd," don't follow them to the pools the day visitors are allowed to use. Rather walk up the jeep track that leads uphill past the campsite, walk past the caretaker's house and about another 700 m, until you get to a fence. In total it's about 1,25 km from the ablution block next to the road, according to Google Earth.

There's a footpath to the right just before the fence, leading down to the top waterfall that's accessible to campers. There's a split in the path, but the one to the left just takes you to the top of an outcrop overlooking the kloof. Take the steeper one to the right, but be careful, there's some loose gravel and it's pretty steep going down there. You'll then arrive at the pool in the second photo included here. Have a swim to cool down after the walk. Be assured that you wouldn't have to come back up the same way, because once you're down in the riverbed it's an easy bit of down-river kloofing to at least the pool in the last two photos, or even all the way down to camp, it's your choice. The river was dry enough at the beginning of the year that we could take cameras or anything we wanted to keep dry, and it's probably a little drier now, although the pools will still be there.

If you'd like to get back on level ground after the last pool shown here it's an easy, short climb back to the road, which you'll join up with just above the caretaker's house. Otherwise, kloof further down river just a couple of hundred metres and exit at the bush camp under the trees - where we camped over New Year and hope to be again over Easter! - and you're back on the road veering off to the right just above the campsite. There's also a nice, but shallower, pool just below the bush camp though, so you may want to keep on kloofing and carry on all the way down to the main camp. Enjoy!

Edit: Oh, and remember to check for depth before jumping! We don't want to read about you in the papers...

Wow, Stadleroux's pics bring back memories. We used to go there often in the 80's, but in about 86/87 a big fire destroyed the mountain around those pools and it became a no-go area for a while. I have'nt been back since (no I had nothing to do with the fire). Nice to know those pools are still as pristine as they were back then
